Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice. My gran is now 90 and, you'll all be pleased to hear, has now stopped driving smile

Back in the 90's she bought the above motor and has kept it ever since, running to the shops and the odd trip up north. It's had nothing more serious than it's fair share of honest parking dents and could do with a good once over to make it mint. It had stood for 3 months and it started first time last week when I tried it.

As an ex MKII GTI (8v) owner I'm thinking it might be worth something to the right person, future classic, if not already and all that?. Just wondered if I'm right or whether it's really just a low milage example and worth what it's worth.

Many thanks in advance,

M1

due to it being a low spec vehicle i.e. not a Gti/G60 .. it won't be worth a fortune tbh.

worth having a look at drivers on the classifieds here / autotrader etc and see what sort of money they are going for.

could be a perfect car for a first time driver tho, so might get a bit more for it

Agree with above, had it been a GTI, you would have been beating people off with sticks, but being a driver won't have the same effect unfortunately. Makes it difficult to price.
Maybe put some ads up on websites like edition38.com and see the response there. All you need is someone with insurance worries, or wanting to transplant a huge engine needing a solid body.
Maybe start off with a couple of grand, and see how it goes.

Agreed, put some feelers out on the specialist websites, there might be a few people who are after a Driver to use as a runaround. Give it a good clean and wax if you do advertise it. Low mileage ones are rare. They do look good with the standard steel wheels. I can put a few posts up on the sites if you want. You could get anything from £300 to £800 depending on the demand.
Ebay might be worth a punt, you can always put a decent reserve on it.

i recong u could get a grand for it easily. i had a mk2 golf 1.3 that had 50k on the clock with no service history to it and sold it for £900. it pays of to advertise it as much as possible as if you find the right person they will pay more for it then most people would. good luck

A low mileage example one went on Ebay a few months ago and reached something like £5k.

Tatty ones are all over the place, one like yours are rare.

Downhill fast. No-one in their right mind and in the real world would pay £2k for a Driver.

Somewhere around the £1k mark would be my guess.

Erm. I think you need to re-read the post I quoted, Tino was referring to a valuation of the driver as mentioned by the OP.

He said start off at a couple of grand, to which I said thats way too much for a driver.

I was not referring to your Gti.
