Does anyone know whether the rear mounting point on the chassis was moved by about 2 inches between either preserp to serp or maybe from gkn diff to the later type. cheers, John.

Are you having a problem fixing a new exhaust........ The mechanic who fitted my new exhaust had big problems as the fixing points did not correspond

Hi Steve, I am trying to sort out the rear mount position which I think is different on early to late Griffs. The chassis tube which the mounting bracket and rubber are attached to must be 2 inches closer to the front of the car and also about 2 inches lower. I can see how your garage had some fun with it, cheers, John.

John,

I assumed when I bought a new genuine TVR exhaust for my 92 4.3 that it would fit no bother, as exhausts for a Griff as reassured by a couple of specialists are identical regardless of year, but they're not.

The rear most mount is indeed 2-3 inches further forward on a pre-cat and also the front of the system is a 'male' to 'female' Y-piece downpipe connection.
The 500 is a 'female'system to 'male' down pipe - basically the exhaust slips into the downpipe on a pre-cat and over the downpipe of a later 500. At least it did on my car and so the my garage had to get the grinder and mig welder out to get it to fit.

They made a beautiful job though! It's the old story, don't assume a part will fit because you're told it will!

Oh and don't get me started on trying to source correct discs and calipers...!

I think the chassis mounts are the same, its the Y-piece & exhaust that are different (and in your case unmatched to each other).

I have checked 3 other griffs and found the pre95 ones have a 1 inch horizontal chassis tube to carry the rear exhaust mounting. this is half an inch from the back of the chassis and at the top of the chassis rails. The 97 griff has a one and a half inch tube which is 2 inches from the back of the chassis and in the middle of the chassis rails, so in conclusion a late 500 exhaust system has a different rear mounting point to an early 500, hope this helps someone in the future, John.
