Last week I had the A6 in for MOT and service,
Passed MOT no problems,
Service ok if abit dear.
On collecting the car was advised of the need for tracking,
Agreed car collected this morning for tracking.
Phone call at eleven. Track rod ends seized? both need replacing at £240?
Agreed to go ahead.
Phone call at one, leak from PAS?

NEEDS NEW STEERING RACK?????????!!!!!!!!!!!

The car is six years old with 24,000 odd on the clock?

Two questions arise.
Is £1450 for a steering rack expensive?
Why wasn't this picked up last week?

Also as an aside the year warrenty that I purchased two months ago has a 90 day get out clause (pre exsisting condition) so thats another six hundred down the swanny.

PAS racks often weep oil, and an overenthusiastic tech mat well note it as an issue.
If you haven't had problems with needing to top up oil, I would take it away, and keep an eye on the oil level. Unless it starts to lose oil, I would keep it as is, and then maybe have it rechecked when you are within the claimable warranty period.
TBH, unless you had uneven tyre wear, or it seems very obvious during test drive, its difficult to tell without adding the gauges whether tracking is out. Ask for a printout of before and after the work is done, and also what made them think that the alignment was out.
