Wife got a NIP today for 41 in a 30 evidenced by a static speed camera.

Bizarrely, it's the first one for either of us and the offense is probably indisputable, so once we confirm she was driving, can anyone let me know the likely penalty for this speed? Less than 40 I'd have guessed that she would have got 3 pts & £60, but I'm wondering if there is a threshold at which point more points & fine kicks in?

Thanks

Subject to the driver having 8 penalty points or less, then an alleged 41 in a 30 would qualify for a Conditional Offer of Fixed Penalty - £60 and 3 points.

50mph in a 30 is the 'threshold' at which the penalties are potentially upped.

I got 3 points & £60 for more than that. You should be OK.

Did she think it was a 40? Is it properly signed?

Don't just take it lying down if there is any doubt about the validity of the signage. I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to advise you which websites to check.

Thanks to all for responding. Hopefully she is now reassured that she won't be going to chokey smile

It happened in an area where there are street lights and a 30 sign shortly before the camera, although typically it is just after a 2-lane 40 zone, so you really have to concentrate to make sure you get the speed down, but no excuse etc, we'll just take the hit as an occupational hazard for the offense of owning and driving a car.

Thanks again
