I just disconnected the battery and had a drip tray to catch the petrol left in the filter. I didn't bother with clamps, however I made sure the car was more-or-less out of fuel.

I'm sure you know to thoroughly check the hoses for deterioration - I had to replace mine and as always I ended up with a non standard solution... wink

To be honest, I didn't disconnect the battery, but I clamped the pipes and the car had been given a few hours to cool right off. worked ok, but watch for petrol dropping as you pull filter clear. Goggles the way to go!

While you are under there - check out the short section of connecting pipe just before the fuel punp - I was amazed at how it has perished when compared to the 8mm fuel hose. Was not far away from a fuel leak.

Got a general quesiton though - I have just changed mine, and th eone I replaced had clearly been there for ages - probably since the car was made. Have others expereinced this, consideringt he car has been through two 12k services by a dealer in its life?

You have just hit the nail on the head thats why I've started doing my own servicing. If I was buying another TVR I would go for the one with a suitcase full of receipts rather than stamps in the service book and no receipts.Cheers,Dave.

And look at the chassis tubes behind the fuel pipes too - its a SUPER dirt trap. Whilst the pipes are clear it is easier to remove the rust and paint/waxoyl it.

Yup, FSH is worth diddly squat IMHO also, still surprising how many folks judge a car by its polish & philatelic qualities wink
