Have I missed something, do speed cameras have to be painted yellow ? Around Ashton (Manchester) seen blue and recently a new one just in the galvanised finish, that one takes some spotting.

The warnings of cameras are there to influence you in keeping to the limit. The job of the camera is to catch those who failed to heed the warning signs.
Personally I'd rather it were clear warning signs & hidden cameras if we are going to have them.

I would agree totally if cameras were sited at locations where speed in excess of the posted limit was a risk to safety. I don’t agree where cameras are located in situations where limits have been set ‘artificially’ low purely for the purpose of catching out otherwise safe and considerate drivers.

I would be more inclined to agree with VH on this, if there was any connection between the signs and the cameras. At present any connection is tenuous to say the least, with lots of signs not related to cameras, (despite what anyone might say, we all know this to be the case). What is needed is a strict regulation that says if you have a sign warning of a camera, there MUST be a camera within a fixed distance, e.g. 1 mile. Any sign without a camera would be illegal, and any camera without a sign would not be allowed to prosecute you on the grounds of improper signage, (like some improperly signed speed limits). If this was the case it might go some way towards making the cameras a little more acceptable, especially if combined with a more elightened approach to road safety than the one we have at present.
