360 - Return to retailer or manufacturer
Discussion
I just had the famous 'Red ring of death' happen on the 360. After reading about people sending them back to microsoft and the issues they have had, would i be better off sending back to the retailer?
I bought it in december of last year from play.com.
Has anyone had any experience of returning items like this back?
Thanks

If it helps they are turning them around quicker now, mine went back on 12/9, it is waiting for ups to collect it from the repairers now with a tracking number from 20/9, should get it back (i hope)on 25/9,
But check out xbox forum, some people are having a faster turnaround, one chap had it collected 13/9 and back 21/9, Lucky.
Get it booked in asap with microsoft, and stick it in a box (not your xbox one) wait for ups to collect.
Remember just send your console, remove your HDD, and every thing else.
Good Luck.

If there is a problem with it, it is the responsibility of the retailer to sort it out. If they don't give you a replacement then they should have to send it off for repair.
Look up trading standards website and you'll find it all on there.
They might say that you have to sort it out, but there just trying to get rid of you and they have to do it by law.

I'm suprised people are so matter of fact about this amazingly dismal performance of reliability from what is a realtively expensive piece of kit.
Why do people continue to buy when the expectation is there that it will die sooner or later. This just means Microsoft are getting away with selling a sub-standard piece of hardware.
Even if they turn around repairs within a week, it is still a week without being able to use a machine that you have spent £270 of your hard-earned on.
Am I missing something, as I fail to see why people are so jovial about it.
Microsoft are surely handing the market to Sony on a plate in the mid-long term with this situation...

Because it is the only console with decent games on.Why do people continue to buy when the expectation is there that it will die sooner or later. This just means Microsoft are getting away with selling a sub-standard piece of hardware.

Just because you don't hear about it so much I wouldn't assume that it doesn't happen to the PS3 and Wii too. Speak to any independant games shop that offers repairs and you'll hear about quite a few PS3s that fail too, but then you look at the number of 360s out there compared to PS3s and it's not hard to see why you hear so few complaints. Why do people continue to buy when the expectation is there that it will die sooner or later. As stated, they can get away with it because they have no competition.
The Wii is for girls and has no good games (we have one in the house).
PS3 is overpriced, there are no games, and there is no rumble on the controllers.
Blockbuster don't rent Wii games either.
X360 is currently the only choice.
I expect the PS3 to be more competitive this time next year.
We'll have a revised X360 by then with a different chip (no red rings problem) and HDMI output as standard.
Should be more of a contest.
Of course the other issue is that the 360 games are no longer first gen. This makes a huge difference

This is why I said Mid-Long term, as I'm sure the price will fall usefully soon, good games are coming, and the Dual Shock 3 with rumble is on the horizon.Once these things are in place then the competition will be there, and their complacency may well come back to bite them.
Actually it is shocking really. I bought mine a year after release after hearing all the issues i thought by then they would have solved the problems with a revision. It looks as though i was wrong and they just released it without rectifying the faults which has annoyed me.
I bought the Xbox as it has all the good games currently, was far cheaper than the PS3 and online play was way better.
I now have the PS3 also and althogh not quite as old have had no issues. My previous PS2 lasted 4 years from the day it went on sale before it finally broke after suffering a bit of abuse over the years but i thought 4 years was a good innings. GT5 better be good as im missing my Forza fix
