I've been having a quick look around different SatNav systems and I'm a bit confused as to why there's such a big difference in the price of the units within the same manufacturer.

So, what am I paying the extra for?

Gimmicks that you are duped into thinking you need, but dont really. European or more map coverage can be useful though, and understandably hikes the price up some.
At the end of the day, you buy them so you can navigate your way around. And they all do that pretty well these days, no matter the cost.
If I was buying a new one now, I'd just get a Tomtom one/one europe edition and be done with it. They look good for the money, and you can still update them with new maps and speed cam databases when you want to.

Why is it everybody just immediatly recommends Tom Tom Units. Yes they are ok but what about the NEW SNOOPER SYRIUS PLUS. I was well impressed with that. Also the AA sat nav is superb. But then again they do do all the uks road maps so it should be good lol.

Whats you all think then

Tomtom and Garmin have the largest Share of the market by a long shot. That doesn't mean they are the best of course. But they certainly do a good job regardless. The tomtom in my experience does what you would expect of a sat nav box, with minimal fuss. Its just one of those "Does what it says on the box" type products. As for the "NEW SNOOPER SYRIUS PLUS" perhaps this is good too. But ive never heard of it. And i'd wager a fair few other folk havent either. So you can't really blame folk for looking at recognisable branded products first. Besides, the post was supposed to be about the difference between costly sat nav, and bargain sat nav. Which I thought I addressed quite well *Pats self on back*

I've seen some of these cheaper ones operating and they are very slow. You buy a faster processor for your money (and more map).
