Aluminum lug nuts

I have looked at the stock lug nuts long enough. They are heavy, the chrome is crap, and they are ugly. Outside of these small complaints they are lovely. A master machinest friend of mine has developed an aluminum lug nut for the car. They are machined from 7075 T761 hex stock. This materail is almost two times as strong as the 2000 series aluminum that is more readily available. This materail is only available in end lots from overruns on aerospace projeccts. The lug nuts and washers are Hard anodized to an aviation spec. Spec sheets for both the materail and anodizing will be supplied. Quality like this is not cheap a set of twenty is $275. I have not had a chance to calculate the difference in weight per set but it is substancail. He has 4 sets unspoken for, anyone intrested e mail me and I will get him your info. Lee
LuckyP, how are your factory replacement nutz holding up? Mine have only been used to hold on the wheels for a few weeks now. So, they're still in good shape. 
Guess I can send them back to the factory, but not worth it if the replacements are not considerably better.

Any good? I got some similar ones from eBay - less than £50 the set iirc.

Hey raz man do you think if I could find lug nuts that fit for $50 with the same quality I might have bought them. I have that brand lug nuts on my Renault its the first place I looked. No the main reason to change the nuts is to get away from the crappy chrome that looks like ..... compared to the rest of the car. As far as stainless goes that diffently fixes the chrome problem but there is the matter of weight. I do agree that there's easier ways to lose weight on the car overall but remember were the weight we are talking about is located. Don't mean to go off, but I have seen a lot of complaints here about the lug nuts being less than wonderfull. This is an attempt to pro activley fix the problem with a quality peice and maybe break even if we eventualy sell 10 sets and right now we have only made 6. Lee
Michael: Thanks for your intrest, the nuts are done in a type 3 black anodizing. the type three is a bit more exspensive than the normal type 2 but it has the advantage of a better bond with the metal and its about .002 thick vs type 2 at about .0004. I have never firqured out how to post pictures to this format. Any suggetions would be appreciated. I will try to get some pictures to you via your E mail. Lee
Not sure I would be happy with Ali.
If you look at the design of the nut you will see that the load is taken by a very small step at the end of the hexagon so would not be good in Ali.
Now a nice set in Titanium would be good as my most recent set of replacement nuts from the factory are now going rusty again so whoever does their chrome plating is crap.
Who knows a good production turning company who could give us a good price after all we would each need 20 nuts and 20 washers so could pretty soon reach a viable production quantity.

I spoke the the bloke at www.shinynuts.co.uk about this about 6 months ago. They made the stainless steel nuts I had on my TVR. Very good quality, but he refused point blank to make any unless I gave him an order for 20 sets (400 nuts and washers). At £100+ a set, you would have to get people to pay up front first....
