Brought a SP6 remap chip a few weeks ago from Dom but had an issue with interferance between the crank sensor and the HT leads. Anyway I moved the HT leads so it was time to take the Cerb out for a spin to find out if I'd fixed the problem.

After letting the engine warm to 70, it's time to test it out. So I set out on some fast local roads and get stuck behind the usual slow traffic.

Anyway the car in front turns off just as some big sports bike appear behind me. I drop it into 1st and floor it, tyres screaming I galance back to see the bike pulling a wheelie as he tries to catch me. Quick shift through the gears and I am pulling away before having to slow for a left hander. Round the bend and there a long straight with a slight uphill incline with another slow car infront. Slow to let on coming traffic pass, the bike's right with me. Quick overtake and I am back in with the bike right next to me, he just cannot get the jump on me even after what seemed like forever, but I can see on coming traffic. Quickly hit the brakes to loose a few mph and let him pull in; I am not going to put anyone at risk for a quick spin. I am back on the power and he cannot shake me even though he's giving it everything. Into some bends and I am right there all the way down to the the traffic lights. Give him a flash of the lights and a thumbs up before turning off.

Anyway the remap is truthly great and well worth the money.

So is this a chip you can fit yourself that requires no additional set up?

Thanks

200 quid - much smoother power delivery and general running, no discernable power increase in my experience.

If you haven't had it done, and you've got 200 drinking vouchers available to you, I'd say do it.

It's really easy to fit. Just disconnect the battery and unclick the leads from the ecu. Take the top off the ecu and take note of the dent in the chip before removing it. Just insert the new chip and put it all back together. Took about 10 mins.

Really simple or you could get Power to do it for you.

I believe it gives another 40 to 50 bhp.

Surely you don't belive that...roflrofl

Did you not mean it "may" give an additional 4 or 5 bhp through the rev range (on some cars)

Lets be realistic. If it gave another 40 or 50 BHP, which I'm sure its does not, it would cost a lot more than 200 pounds.

That's the figure I was told and it sure feels more than 5bhp.

is this the chip that switches on the cooling fans at 80(ish) instead of 90(ish)?

I think the Cats should be reinstated on your car - your hearing must be starting to go down hill. wink

Unless your ECU was very very very poorley, a chip would make little difference in outright power on a S6. My 5 bhp was being kind. I'm sure if you call Power, they will confirm.

I've had one fitted - there's no more power and no need to inform the insurance Company. It is noticably smoother however and can run on normal unleaded without pinking and yes, the fans cut in at 88C. I assume this is the one that's being discussed here (from TVR Power).

The only way you're going to get an extra 40-50 bhp is if it was seriously down on power in the first place.
