Whining on accelration - Freelander
Discussion
Another question about my Freelander a 2000 (W) 1.8, hope someone can help when you accelerate there is a whining noise that seems to come from the front, but if you let off the accelerator the noise goes, has me stumped sounds a bit like a turbo noise but I know someone has not fitted one on!!

Most likely the transfer case, all transfer cases whine. If it's real loud then check the fluid level.
Doubtful as they don't have transfer cases! More likely the IRD on it's last legs.GreenLandy said:
Run your hands over the front and rear tyres. Do they feel like they're wearing unevenly? If yes then that whine is your IRD.
They all seem to be worn evenly, wouldn't the whine be constant if it was something in the driveline like the IRD, it only whines when I accelerate not when coasting or off the throttlebiglepton said:
