What is the score? Is it allowed? I am in Esher today and have left my bike next to a cycle rack on the pavement. I am liable to get ticketed?

Quite likely, though it depends exactly where it is and how busy the pavement is as to whether the plod or the wardens feel lenient.

IIRC some years ago in MCN they said that it was only illegal to park on the pavement if one or more tyres are touching the ground? if so devise a centre stand that suspends the bike (or carry paddock stands) and you can park for free........ confused

I've been parking on pavements fairly regularly for the last 7 years or so, I've never had a problem. I think if you park it out of the way so it's not blocking anything you'll be fine.

I parked on a pavement by a cycle rack on waterloo rd, london, and got pictured by a camera the other end of the road, 50 notes. I was there 5 mins to pick some thing up from a shop and wasn't in anyones way. You can cover your plate and tax disc, but you could still get towed. As said it really depends where you are and wardens mentality. But big cities just see pound signs. It also depends if there are yellow lines in the road or kerb markings, but what they all mean is open to interpretation.

I park on the pavement in Glasgow occasionally. First time I did it I asked a nearby parking attendant if it was ok and she said yes. Think it helped that the pavement was really wide and there were 2x Council-liveried trade wheely bins on the pavement already. If they weren't causing an obstruction then my bike alongside certainly wouldn't!
