Not had one of these before, honest. Back of the form is obiovsly asking you to name the driver and I can ask for a photo which I think I will.
So I'll send the form off with drivers licence number ( clean for 22 years ). Any chance of just a bollocking from this Sussex Safer Roads Unit?
All seems at bit lame for 36mph. Wouldn't of minded so much if I'd been doing a lot more.

Why ask for the photo - as you apparently already know that you were driving.

Will you have been speeding at the time?

Just sent the form, then the money and your licence. The money is all they really want!

Dont think you can get away with it, nor should you if you were driving, but surely if anyone else has access to the car, its good form to request the evidence of the crime you are being accused of?

You might, possibly, depending on where you are, get a Speed Awareness Course instead of points and tax.

At least make them work towards a semblance of due process.

36 in a 30. I think, IIRC, 30 x 10% +2 is the margin... At 35 you may be ok... but 36... erm... fess and you pay.

Choose to go to court then I'm not sure what the likely outcome would be.

Presumption of innocense?

Where is the calibration, the photo's, or the video evidence?

Nothing short of scandalous. UK in 2007. Big Brother said you did it, so pay up. Shorpes the lot of them.

Basically you have ZERO chance.

They will threaten you with everything possible in order to get their grubbly little mitts on you hard earned.

It ammounts to demanding money with menace.

If you got to mags court what are the chances of the Mag letting you off with a bollocking of finding you not guilty?

ZIP, Nil, None.
Its a scam that says give us you money based on an almost indisputable picture that we claim to have of your car or the consiquences will be far worse, and no you have no right to silence.

You are legally obliged to incriminate your self or others or, again suffer greater penalties.

It all boocks to make £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££

Is a funny one. Yes, there ought to be a presumption of innocence, but it would seem to be that you give up that particular right when you buy a car. The type approval of the camera means that the justice system trusts the little black box when it produces a photo of car XXX doing 36mph in front of it. So far, the letter is fishing for information from the registered keeper as to which reckless deviant was piloting said vehicle at the time.
In return for providing this, I suspect that the guilty party will be offered either a Fixed Penalty Notice or a Course. Either of which are a lot less arseache than attending Court where the beaks will squint at them for being child-killers and sentence them to approximately three times more than young Shaznay gets for nicking your neighbours Astra. If you know you've done it, then its a matter of saying fair cop guvnor, and surrendering your nice clean licence for besmirchment. If you dont think you missed the massively obvious yellow box, and want to protest your innocence, then by all means turn down the FPN and fight on. Personally, am resigned to the odd ticket from time to time, in return for hooning it from time to time driving and riding strictly within the letter of the law.

This wasnt meant, ever, to be a "think of the children, dont kill the kittens" sanctimonious response, and I hope the OP didnt take it that way.

yes

make the bastards earn every penny!

just make sure you send stuff recorded delivery
The last one I made them work for resulted in me being refered to the court because I had not replied, despite sending me letter recorded delivery.

Lucking I managed to find a reasonable guy at the SCP who put a stop to the proceedings and allowed me to send the letter again.

Back to the OP, how to reply.

Send back the letter in a jiffy bag full of liquified dog excrement.

Job done.

I'll even put in a fiver towards the legal costs afterwards as well smile

I dont deny the speed. It wont make any differnce to my driving. I'd rather give the money to charity and I'm 99.99999999% sure there will find and forward me a nice picture of the rear of the car. Its just a lame ( to me ) 36 on an industrial estate in Crawley, not like the usaul Pistonheads post of: I have 11 points now caught doing 130mph need car for work etc. The cars not registered in my name, so the owner will approvingly from me grass me up.
Thanks for replys. I shall enquire about the Speed Awareness Course though.

It depend on the area. This also appear to make mockery of justice as it then become a post code lottery as to whether you get course or points. For example, after a lot of local protest over NIPs being sent as low as 33 mph in LanCASHi££££re in 2002/03 to get bums on seats for a Speed Aware which cut off at 35 mph - reportedly a sound course based on COAST, but targetting the mostly less risky drivers rolleyes - it get re-jigged to warning at 10%+2 inclusive, with course offered to 10% +5 across all speed limit ranges. But elsewhere ..rolleyes it either not offered at all or cuts off at 35 mph which lead to sort of mistrust which LanCASHi£££££re received. (Still do as the reputation of those days of 2002/03 linger in minds of locals.rolleyes) We found many of our neighbours/Mad Doc's colleagues in Lancs Hospital (some A&E wink) had been on this Speed Course at 34/35 mph at the time. It struck us at the time as big money maker. We hit the blitz button on the long winded letters hehe It seem they took notice eventually .. perhaps they could not take much more of my spelling rofl

Sadly Sussex don't offer a course for speeding, only due care offences.
