As you all may be aware, before I wrote off my fireblade, I had a 2CT delaminate over in Germany at high speed. This was during the time of the recall where most were advised not to use their bikes at speed; I was not.

Anyway, I had the tyres replaced with a pair of Pirelli Diablos (not Corsas) in Sachsenring and then rode home. After contacting Michelin they suggested that as I didn't have the front replaced they may re-imburse me for the pair that I had put on the bike to get me home.

This all happened back in July, it is now nearly October and I still haven't heard anything from them. I appreciate they have had a bad time of late (including MotoGP: non related) but in my eyes, that is no excuse.

The thing is, what do I do next? MCN suggest that they have covered this so I don't think will be much help. All I want to do is pay my credit card payment off for the tyres.

Any thoughts?

PS. to all those that remember my accident on the fireblade: I have just bought an 03 R6 with 3000 miles on the clock that I will be turning into a track bike for 2008. See you on track soon!!

Can't advise on your Michelin issue, but it's great that you're back - it was only a matter of time . . . !!

Finally received this response from Michelin regarding my delamination, see above. They have covered the cost of the replacement Diablos that nearly killed me. It was my choice to ride the bike at full lean with tyres with less grip than the 2CTs so lesson learned, always buy the best rubber you can afford if you want to ride on the limit.

I am going to be buying another set of 2CTs for the R6 for the track. They truly were awesome at extreme lean angles.

Not doubting how good the 2cts are, but thought they are more of a road tyre?

imo, Rennsport or Supercorsa pro's sc compound are far better road legal track tyres.

Agreed.

2CT's are road biased tyres that work well on track.

Supercorsa pros sc are basically road legal track tyres.

Saying that, if its a full on track bike then slicks/wets ???

Ok, thanks for the advice.

If I go for Supercorsa Pros, what compound would be good for an Inters rider on an R6 round Silverstone in the dry?

I've always used the sc1(soft) front & sc2 (medium) rear, although tbh these tyres are wasted on my ability.. i probably wouldn't notice the differnce between all 3 compounds.. but the bike has always seemed rock solid under braking with excellent grip exiting the corners... i've used more road baised tyres - but found that they spin up way to easily on track.

I'd normally get about 3 trackdays out of a rear sc2 - that was by turning the tyre around after each day to run in the opposite direction - most people i hear say it's fine to do this with Pirelli/Metzeler track tyres.

When I had my ex race R6 I ran Super Corsa Pro's SC1 front & SC2 rear on track (the bike was not a road bike) and you really could get the bike cranked over on its side to the point of within 2mm of the edge on the front tyre, they really are a very good track tyre

Not had a problem running SC Pro's. SC1 Front and SC2 rear same as most people.

As long as I can get these sort of lean angles as I did on 2CTs then I will be more than happy!!

Yea, you'll be able to get your front brake leaver pretty close to the ground and catch your rear sets.
