Helmet hole

I was hunting around the inside of my car trying to track down a squeak which it turns out is the driver's seat belt plastic thing attached to the swivel next to the speaker. During my hunt i noticed that the bottom part of the helmet hole is not attached to anything and lifts quite readily off the center console. Is this normal?

Yep mine was only fixed at the top, bottom just wedged in.

all sounds normal to me ,there is a bolt at top of helmet holder wich you can get to
behind the electrical boxes in the boot.
it has a wing nut on,remove and holder will pull out.

Mine wedges in quite wel. Mine you I have mine modded with a 150W pioneer subwoofer
