If the owner of 400se - H14 AKM is on this forum - and still alive !! - serious respect is due.
You have huge balls of steel
I followed you on the way to Le Mans on the peage from Calais.
I was in a brand new M3 Coupe and according to our speedo, you were CRUISING at 155 mph - we were flat out at 165 mph to overtake.
And then 3 x TVRs and a 911 turbo passed us at 175 mph
We also flashed you on Friday to warn you of a speed trap around Indianapolis

My speedo was only reading 140 (ish!) but the beastie felt solid as a rock
The convoy that passed us both must have been traveeling at some sort of obscene speed
I felt like I had parked up and turned off the engine!
Made it back Ok too, albeit via a small speed trap outside Rouen! (90 Euros poorer, but the guy in front of me had his car confiscated)
Same time next year!?

It was on the toll road south of Calais on the way to Caen/Rouen/Alencon etc. Slight down hill section as I recall, hence the boost to the top speed! There was more to come I think, but I backed off cos things were getting a little floaty up front!
I don't have the rear spoiler on my 400se, but the back end felt well planted - more so than a wedge with spoiler that I rode in at high speed once, so maybe those boot spoilers actually generate lift??.
The front end was bobbing a bit though, but then again I'm still on the original springs and dampers! ( got the decent bushes front and back though)
You'll be pleased to know that the diff vibes are no worse at 155 than they are at 125!
Got a speeding fine on the way back on sunday. T'was on the N138. I was one of MANY being stopped that day, and I was only doing 75 in a 56 limit. :Yikes:
Only 90 Euros though, and the Rozzer said he liked my car
The cops drove me into town to get the money froma cash point, and then did 75 themselves on the way back to the my car! I told them to slow down cos there was a speed trap up ahead I resisted the urge to ask them why they hadn't been so diligent blocking the roads in 1939...... Andy 400se
Managed to hit 150 with the roof down 3 years ago, with my dad in the car comming back towards Le-Harve.
The Payage was a long sweeping right hander and I was running on vapours ... Managed to get fuel starvation at 150 due to the angle of the road and the lateral forces .. plus an almost empty tank. Something rather scarey havign the car cough and splutter when travelling at that speed.
The funny thing was, as I accelerated though 120 and onwards, the back of the car just squatted down hard and refused to budge. Our Lead Car (911 C4S) passed me @ 165.

I got my 400SE upto 150 on the speedo comming back from le-mans also 2 up with tents in boot. This was about 8 years ago, with about 25k on the clock, so was still newish. felt solid no boot spoiler either, has front spliter, and felt there was more left if needed.
We had the same in our 350SE on the way back from the Ring some years ago, but the car became very light at the front and started to express a desire to go in a different direction to that requested... so we eased up a little.
Geuss the more radical bodywork on the bigger engined SEs was for good reason.
