I live in the congestion charge zone in London which looks like it will become very tight next year on emissions. For family transport we need a seven seater so will be going for a diesel.

I have been told that diesels do not like short runs around town? Is this true? Something about needing a good run to clear it out?

Also, are they any worse that petrol for this? BMW blamed short drives around town for a dead cat at 40,000 on my 4 year old 5 series.

Cheers

A short run will kill a cat because it does not have time to heat up.
If you are in London, will it be more sensible to walk for short run with all the trafic?

Jack

I was aware of the Cat issue with short journeys on Petrol engines, condensation build up roots the inside.

It was Diesels I was interested in.

Equally, ferrying five children (youngest 5, oldest 10 - not all mine) four miles to school is not that easily done on foot.

So we will be driving.

It'll be ok, just expect to have to service parts more due to the arduous condition operational cycle.
