I've had my chimaera a couple of weeks now - been taking it steady getting used to it etc.

But I did the stupidest thing this evening - flushed with the success of my first piece of TVR maintenance (replacing my oil pressure sender) I only had eyes for it; completely ignored the fuel gauge. DOH! getmecoat Fortunately I was just pulling onto the drive and coasted up to my garage as it conked out :-( what a plonker paperbag

I won't be ignoring the gauge in future - FACT!

So what awful damage have I done? I've never run out of fuel before is there anything I need to do before I refill. Just to give you an idea as to what happened, it just bogged down, then stalled, no nasty bangs, pop or scary noises. I realised immediately that I'm a fool and I haven't tried to restart since.

On a related note my fuel pump had (previous to this stupidity) been making some rather strange noises - gurgling type noise mostly when I turn the ignition on but don't start immediately after the fuel pump has finished whining. Occasionally it's made an hilarious 'farting' sound (girlfriends description). I've also noticed it's been getting more reluctant to start - turning over for longer and longer. Would now be a good time to replace the fuel pump/filter (seeing as I have a near empty tank and the car came with a replacement pump and what I think is a fuel filter).

Cheers

They normally blame the dog biggrin women!

Tank popping is normally associated with blocked venting / carbon cannister ~ I'd check these before you replace the fuel pump & filter (they are unlikely to be causing the gaseous burps). Just stick fuel in & switch the ign on, you will hear the pump prime - start her up, no great precautions needed.

Carbon cannister - sounds like something Han Solo got frozen in! Will get it looked at next time it's in the for service/repairs - think this might be a bit out of my league eek

Thanks for the advice about restarting - will have to buy a dog so the car escapes any further blame wink
