not used the griff for a few weeks - left it on trickle charge. went to start it and i just get a high speed ticking sound and the alarm goes a bit nuts. it is as if the car is trying to start and there is virtually no power in the battery for it to crank.
battery is fully charged
alarm remote works and immobiliser is ok i think
fuel pump buzzes away as normal
lights/wipers/heater all electrics come on at full power when i test them
it was a recon starter motor some months ago. i have had a search through for similar non-starting posts and am guessing the solonoid might be at fault.i am going to take off starter solonoid connections and give them a bit of a clean. any suggestions as to what it might be? all major earth connections are in fairly good order. have not checked starter earth to body - could it be that?

I'm no expert but it does sound like the starter motor sticking as you suggest. I've not tried it but I am reliably informed that a whack with a rubber hammer or such like may free it.

If it wont start even from cold then I doubt its the starter motor bushes having worn which normally rears its head when hot.

OK Twice now I've had to 'tap' the starter motor to get it turning over. How do I fix ? Do I have to get under the car, take off the starter and clean the solenoid ?
BTW its generally when the car hasn't moved for a bit so I guess the starter solenoid is getting rusty or something.
Ideas ?
