Range Rover, Disco 3 or New Freelander, for 95% road work with some gentle, winter off roading and to drive to the alps?

Don't need a huge amount of space but it's always useful...

All within budget!

Depends. The RR will be the more costly of the three in regards of maintainance and running costs, and depreciate the most.It would still be top of my list of the three.

i would buy this http://www.formulacars.co.uk/vehicles/506.html

it's probably just in your budget and if i had the cash it's exactly what i would be buying- all the bells and whistles for genuine offroading and it will still do 24mpg on a run!

why not?

i think you'll look more relaxed- people don't get so annoyed by G4's and Camels as they see them as being a bit of fun- and that G4 has real credibility too as it was used by actual G4 competitors in the challenge.

I've had my eye on it for a while as it's owned by the garage who serviced and supplied my last car- i think it's the owners private vehicle and it's a really quite rare beasty. If i had that kind of ££ right now for a car i'd buy it like a shot as they usually come up for sale at more like £40k. I'm hoping no ones going to buy it before i can save the pounds!

I was also going to suggest a G4 disco 3 or RRS.

For some background on this particular vehicle ask on the g4 owners web site.

you could join us on the L2B 2008 next year!

Not convinced - it's bad enough with a 'normal' 4wd let alone a bright orange one! If i lived in the country then it would be a no-brainer!

Also i do a bit of shooting and not sure how well that blends into the background!

just asking him if it is for sale??

It's more the distasteful stare of the landowner I'm worried about... shoot

after years of beating i can tell you that the Birds don't car about cars, and the landowners are more likely to give a rueful smile than anything else- the great thing about G4 vehicles is that they can get properly muddy and will get respected far more than a Disco 3 or range rover- to be frank most people think RaRo and disco owners are pretty stuck up but most G4 owners are enthusiasts- you are much more likely to get let out of turns for example, and not put people's backs up.

i do know that this was a real G4 vehicle run by the turkish and italian entrants- it's alledgedly one of the most photo'd RRS G4s out there.

You may well be right. I can just see the look on people's faces as I rock up in a borrowed RR at shoots...

The new F2 is really good, the RR is nice but the newer ones just seem so much nicer and I'd want a TDV8 which is going to be over £50k so I'd probably get a Disco HSE if I had that budget, as they just seem to do everything so well.

But the HSE is a lot more money than say a XS just for a load of toys you dont need? (IMHO)

True but I use the Sat-Nav all the time, the sunroofs are good, bluetooth phone is useful, bixenon adaptive headlights are really good, leather is nice, heated seats keep the girlfriend happy, fridge is great for road trips etc etc ! But we are doing a good deal on a new XS LE which has got leather and all the reflection pack stuff too !

i went to an auction at Brightwells auction house in Leominster- there were a number of TDV8, unregistered but PDId in germany which went to less than £40k each

there was 2 1/2 yr old range rover which which went for less than 18k!

might be worth a trip?
