Hi folks,

Wife bought an Ixus 900Ti a few months back (May) which developed a problem over the summer (blown pixel rolleyes). Now, she loves the camera, but on returning it to Amazon they claim it was a limited edition and is no longer unavailable and have refunded her.

At the time it was either the 900Ti or the 850. The 850 has now been replaced by the 950 apparently, but it's still only 8MP as opposed to the 10MP camera she had.

Why can't manufacturers have a clear model lineup? It was certainly not clear that the 900 was a limited edition - the 850 had only 8MP but it had some sort of image stabilisation programme on it that the the 900 didn't.

Anyway, I digress.

I've been looking around for somewhere reputable to get one - pricerunner mentions eatay, rankhour, camera world, uk digital, camerabox and digital first. Anybody have any experience with them? Don't want to have more problems and then not be able to return it - one of the Amazon marketplace sellers seemed to have some pretty restrictive returns policies...

Why not buy the Canon 960 IS. It's the latest and the greatest from Canon. From what I've read it takes great photos, just a wee bit slow between shots. Amazon has it for £257.

Warehouseexpress (.com) End of. I've spent thousands with them - award-winning, excellent customer service.

The manufacturers ring the changes in the mass market about every 6 months so inability to replace is not unusual unless you buy a model as it is first released.

Return to Canon (or whoever) under warranty might produce a fix rather than refund - but I doubt it for that sort of fault.

Unless Mrs. NCoT wants to print her shots at A2 regularly or always crops to just a very small part of the image taken it may not be worth worrying about the number of pixels claimed. In small sensors more pixels can compromise image quality - too many in too small a space.

The experience of the 900Ti may well have helped her to work out what she most needs from the camera. Buy based on finding something that satisfies that need rather than the number of pixels. Be prepared to change it every year or two ...

I'd actually prefer to have 6Mp on a compact point and shoot, not the ridiculous 10 or 12Mp they are now. Smaller pixels equal poor ISO performance and noise.

You're better off with the 8Mp camera with IS.
