I can hear a refurbed 5d shouting your name louder wink

If it uses the EF compatible mount it should do - I'm pretty certain that the EOS has always used the same mount just the af pinouts may be different. Best thing is take your lens and try it out. Glass of a good quality 10 years ago is good quality today

EOS is EOS so it should work.

Lens 'length' will be a bit longer due to the crop factor.

Can't comment on the quality differences over time on EOS products but I have an even older FD lens system (manual everything for use on EOS systems) which works just fine through an adapter using my 400D body. My 600mm f4.5-5.6 is now a 900mm (approx) f4.5-5.6 and I can easily use ISO800 and ISO 1600 if I need it!

The difficulty is getting far enough away from the action ...

I use a mix of old and new EOS (or at least EOS fit) lenses on my 350D. No problems. I think the only things to be aware of are:

- EF-S lenses (digital 'crop' snsor specific, like the 350D kit lense) - do NOT put them onto non EFS cameras - risk of trashing the mirror.

- Some fo the older Sigma lenses do not work unless they have been 'rechipped' - Sigma reverse engineer the mount so every few years Canon re-engineer the mount (software) so things on the Sigmas don't work properly (e.g. aperture control) - so if buying secondhand be aware!

Hope this helps
