my tvr was imported in 2001,on the logbook it states manufacture date as 1998, its an r reg, when recently cleaning the engine bay i saw a number near the main pulley, thats looks like a manufacture date. it states "5 1 99". Which would make my car an "s" reg.
Is this correct???
How could i confirm this to dvla? I beleive tvr's gone bust. Any help would be appreciated.

I might be wrong but dvla should be able to tell you the first registered date by the chassis number.

There are also a couple of other clues as to the date of manufacture. Look at the ECU: it will have its own manufacturing date, a week number followed by a year number, eg. 1099 would be week 10, 1999. Also the seatbelts may have a date on them.

None of it proves anything, as the date of manufacture of the components won't be exactly the same as the date of manufacture of the car. And they might have been replaced at some time, but it is a pointer.

If you are a TVRCC member, you could contact the archivist with the chassis number. He might be able to offer a date of manufacture.

Further clues exist in the rear lights, wiper motor and boot hinges although it seems there are no hard and fast rules on whether these were all changed 'overnight' I think I've read on here before that someone saw Chimaeras actually in production at the factory with different back lights.

But basically the rear light clusters were changed from Ford units to TVR units first (during 1998?), followed by the wiper motor and boot hinges. From some time in 1999 the wiper motor was removed from the engine bay to a position under the dash above the steering column. Around the same time the boot hinges, previously visible on the bootlid, were replaced with ones not visible from outside.

There are various dates around the car, and the chassis no can be decoded to the week of manufacture (of the chassis itself). However chassis, engine have their own dates, you can also see dates of various body panels written on the backing, they will of course all pre-date the first registration (if they are oroginal). What was the question?
