Ouch...How big is my bill?
Discussion
Ok disaster fans it's time to play 'how big is the bill?'
Major service,
exhaust manifold gaskets,
engine mounts,
De-gas aircon,
New Cam, timing gear, lifters etc.
Heads off,
New head gaskets and super strong studs,
lap/grind valves,
...phew thought this was all but disaster strikes today.
...camshaft bearing cracked!
Block out for bottom end rebuild,
might as well pressure test block,
replace piston rings.

Anything else I should consider whilst it is all out? At least she'll be like new when she's done, if I can afford fuel that is...
It's been so long I've forgotton what she's like to drive!
Interestingly BTW, my 450 appears to be a standard Range Rover 4.6, not that I'm surprised at all.

As i have metioned before a lot of the 450's are stock rangie engines apart from cam and valve springs, and some had the big valves but i guess it was a lucky dip what you ended up with!, it would well be worth having the pistons pocketed/balanced so you can have free range of cam choice and also skim the block to get the compresion up from the 9.35, not a lot of money but a good gain. ps how the hell do you a crack a cam bearing???

Who knows but here it is! View through the block valley. There's little chunks of metal in the sump and oil strainer which is not ideal, everything else looks ok though. Having the block pressure tested so fingers crossed for that.
I'll add new lifters and coolant hoses to the bill as well.
I've taken loads of photos of the engine in bits so I'll post them on a website, they're quite interesting.
