My housemate has just crashed his newly bought bee emm into the back of a truck loser and has badly scratched it.

I havent seen it yet but he reckons it isnt dinted but will need a respray... any ideas on how much this will be? its an '05 silver 318CI...

Oh, and if it needs a new bonnet, what is he looking at?

Cheers

I'd spend the cash on a better engine...

Respray could cost around £200 if a simple job. For a bare metal job expect to pay a fair bit more!

You could try C J Chamberlain in Surbiton http://www.touchkingston.com/business/list/bid/523...

I can't vouch for them myself but I've seen some very tasty machinery in there (spotted an unregistered XKR no doubt from the Jag dealer along the road) alongside the usual stuff, so someone obviously trusts them.

Failing that I've found that Vines BMW in Guildford gave far and away the best quote for some body work on my old MINI. They did a good job too.

Would have thought your looking at around £200-300ish. New bonnets aren't cheap from BMW so would look in the scrap yards as others have suggested

Silver is one of the more difficult colours to blend when doing a paint job as it's got bits of black in it.

Depends where you go, I've had quotes up to a grand to spray a bonnet!!! But by the same token, I had one done for £140 by a local small body repairer and he did a fab job! Just a case of looking around and getting some quotes, but certainly £200 to £300 is easily achievable. Good luck!

Regarding painting a bonnet, surely it will need paint on the wings to blend in?

if a new bonnet is needed the wings will prob need blending,if the scratches are central he might get away with just the bonnet being done, most bodyshops work out prices on time required to do the job ie 4 hours to paint bonnet @ £25.00 per hour plus an hour each side to blend wings plus paint and sundries and of course the dreaded vat. hope this helps

Seeing as the damage was done last September wouldn't all this have been sorted by now?

A silver bonnet will need blending over the wings. Retail, that should cost about £600.

Three Grand!!?!?

Flaming 'eck

I've just had my B3 in the local Porsche/Mercedes bodyshop. Front Airdam & Apron nylon bead blast and restoration, bonnet, headlight trims, front wings, mirror covers, and rear apron. In Silver.

Came to less than half of what your mate paid.
