exhaust wrapping
Discussion
thought i might do a bit of exhaust wrapping, basically i thought i would buy a 2" wide roll of wrap and do everything that was exhaust pipe.
by this i mean all the tube sections so its only the silence that is exposed (rousch exhaust)
also whats the score with turbo jackets? worth doing or best left exposed?

Worth doing, but i wouldn't cover the CATS! - Also, Turbo jackets are ok but make sure you let the them cool down for a few minutes after a sprited drive! All just my opinion though! by this i mean all the tube sections so its only the silence that is exposed (rousch exhaust)

I have to disagree with Ross(sorry mate) Cats I would deffo wrap as after the turbo they are the hottest thing, and if you dont wrap the front cat you will eventually get issues with wiring and battery/alternator. Again all IMO.
What's the reason for not wrapping the cats? I'd make sure the front cat is wrapped, it's pretty close to the wiring harness and battery!
Just make sure you wear goggles, gloves, mask and long sleeve clothing, the fibregass strands are very irritating as I found out when I did mine. Buy some optrex as well just in case!

well a 50 foot roll of 2" wrap isnt enough lol.
i managed to get the rear turbo pipe work done on both sides if the silencer after removing the intercooler box. only got a couple of feet left so wont bother even starting the front turbo pipework.
have ordered a second roll so when it comes i will attempt the front turbo pipes.
for info guys if you plan to do this, buy 2 x 50 foot rolls.

You should be OK wrapping the cats, in fact wrap as much as you can post exhaust manifold oultlets. Either that, or get your exhaust heat coated. Expensive but much tidier.
The only reason it could cause a problem with the cat's (I will remove mine and design a new Exhaust layout based on what I've seen so far when I get my Noble), is if you exceed the upper working temp of the cat. On most modern cat's, that will be circa 900 degrees C. If you're seeing or exceeding that you will have far more immediate and serious problems to worry about.
I use a thermal Turbo jacket on my car as well, which covers the Turbine housing only (Subaru Impreza running High BHP), the thing to remember when it comes to exhaust wrapping is that usually the main reason you're doing it is to reduce the mass of the exhaust gas by keeping it hot so it flows out of the system better by aiding gas velocity.

main reason i am doing mine is to keep the engine compartment temp down as much as poss. more of an issue with the noble as 2x cats, silencers and all the pipe work is around the engine and intercooler making it all pretty hot.
as i say have done the rear cat, ben out for a run to heat the water off the wrap and try and get rid of some of the initial stink lol
new roll ordered for whenever the whinging posties decide to go back to work
