Bought one, installed that PC software TomTom Home, updated some phone connection and the TomTom software as per suggestion, but now I can't see to get to my 'pre-installed' Speed Camera database.

Main Menu 3 > TomTom PLUS services > TomTom Safety Camera's >press > TomTom Safety Cameras, blah blah, Use TomTom HOME to join this service and transfer the blah blah to your device.

I'm sure this was working before, but now it's not after the two updates above (phone connection and latest TomTom OS)... has the update meant I have to re-download or activate the package somehow?

Really confused already, no mention of anything except they are 'pre-installed' on the box and now I can't get at them...

Am I worth using the ones from Pocket PC Speed Cam's forum or whatever it's called through the POI instead?

Loving the device so far though, really handy, just hate the fact in usual 'big company' style they have made the PC side of things complicated and confusing, and have what is essentially a windows registry type system for your 'subscribed' services, and then goes wrong... paying customer yet again ends up with a headache while my workmate just runs everything on his for free without issue mad

I recently had a very similar episode with a brand new TT One XL. It was sold as having the camera database pre-installed. Like you, the data/files were visible in the 'Tomtom home' viewer as being on the device but it was impossible to activate the warnings. I spent several frustrating hours trying to sort it. TT said there was a 'software conflict' and emailed me the earlier version of the software to install. This didn't work either....

I was extremely disappointed that TT would sell a brand new machine with such a basic flaw and returned the TT last week and swapped it for a Garmin Nuvi 250 which I am very pleased with; worked perfectly straight out of the box as I had hoped the TT would...

Well, I got the latest version of TomTom Home, which now says that the TomTom camera data is on there, just it doesn't show up as a POI, and I've not yet driven past any actual fixed camera's to test it does anything.

But, I've got the Pocket GPS ones, which for £20 seems like a bargain as they have pretty much everything that I know of on all my local routes, the speeds and everything...

I got both packs, ie, all split up, but there are too damn many and not so many decent sound selections for the alert noise (guess I can add custom sounds for alerts), so right now just running a 500yard POI alert ding dong... just not sure now if the TomTom ones will perk up when I go near a real fixed camera, and if the POI noise will play with sounds turned off. The voice can do my head in so I turn it down/off, but the POI info is important...

Need more settings biggrin

POI's will not sound with voice turned off. You can however, download a free "sound of silence" voice. Which plays blanks for instructions, but the POI alerts still work.

I recently got A TomTom One XL and am having the same problem. I contacted TomTom via email a number of times.

After first telling me I was not activating the cameras they finally responded as follows, sent 27/09/07:

"Dear Mr xxxxxxx

At this time it is not posible to use the pre installed safety cameras with the latest software version.
We are aware of this and therefore will provide an update in the future which will fix this.

However if you want to use the safety cameras now we recommend that you downgrade your version of TomTom HOME
to version 1.5 this will allow you to install a lower software version onto your TomTom ONE X you will then find that you can
use the pre installed safety cameras.

With Best Regards

TomTom Customer Support Team"

Considering it boasts on the packaging about having the safety cameras pre-installed I find this a touch disappointing. I'm not going to install the older software as I guess there is a reason why it was replaced and don't want to inadvertently downgrade something else in the process. I'll just wait for the update, but it is a bit annoying.

On a related note, there customer support website is the biggest shower of shit I've ever seen!

I need to figure out which map set includes france, belgium, germany, poland and czech republic and not only do they list different sets of maps between the parts of the website but they don't list the countries just before you go to pay the £70ish. bastards, total bastards...

It's also not letting me email them, I don't suppose anyone has their actual email address rather than that crap on the site?

Glad to hear I wasn't the only one. I got rid of mine on a point of principle that 1) It didn't do what it said on the tin (unable to access pre-installed camera database)and 2) I had wasted several hours of my life trying to sort it out, therefore I wasn't prepared to improve their profits or wait indefinately to have a software upgrade/fix at some point in the future, to be determined at their convenience. mad

There are plenty of other good systems out there; don't put up with it.

Thanks Emma, there website started working again this morning, however there customer support even when you do fight through enough crap to speak to them can't actually help me as they're as ing hopeless as the website. There solution isn't to explain why the bit of the website I need to see doesn't work, it's to either buy more than one map set, or even better buy each country on it's own. TOSSERS.

Great products with shit service... my favorite. punch

I'm off to try and find a real human with a brain and some boxes on a shelf as the internet is getting right on my tits today.

No worries I gave up with tomtom along time ago, you can now see why! Even if you call them they sound American.

Just to let you know, the latest software update enables the speed cameras on the One XL. It seems you can't update them though without buying a subscription.

I managed to get UK speed cameras to work when I spent quite a while trying to get the whole of europe to work on it. I have to say, it was worth the effort, it got us to within sight of our hotels in belgium, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and France however it did take 4 hours to download the maps (1.7Gb) and failed the first time. It would appear tom tom make very good products but offer shite support.

Had a little run out to test the speed camera detecting ability earlier. It works great, you can adjust how far in advance you get the warning, and you can choose which types of cameras you want warnings for (I don't bother with the red light ones). Only disappointment is it doesn't know which direction the cameras operate in so you get a warning even if it only applies to traffic in the opposite direction.
