One of the PreCats in the exhaust manifolds on my Chim is rattling loose. The concensus is that I should remove both of them and run without the PreCats.

My mechanic is struggling to 'find time' to remove them as it will require cutting the manifolds and then taking them somewhere to have them welded together (I thought all mechanics welded...obviously not).

Does anyone know anywhere in or near glasgow who would be able to do this for me quickly?

Cheers

Do it your self, remove the lambder sensor then drill and beat the cat out, takes awhile but thats how I did it.

Hi Chris,

I have taken your advice and gone and picked up the exhaust manifolds. The mechanic said he doesnt have a socket which is suitable for removing the lamder sensor.

Any ideas where I would get one? What exactley should I be searching for?

Cheers

Dunno about removing the sensor but make sure you wear a mask, gloves and clean up all the rubbish that comes out carefully when you're hacking those cats out they're full of nasty poisonous stuff.

get a long 17mm socket then run a grinder cutting wheel down the side, all the way along its length(this is to slot the wires in when using)your garage can do this fordrinkif you are not able too, they will also see what your trying to achieve.

I bought a cheap set of box spanners and cut one open with a grinder, did the job a treat and easy to get hold of

I borrowed a box key (one where you use a handle that goes through a hole in it rather than a ratchet wrench) this allowed me to take the wires out of the lambda sensor plug and thread them through the box key, and the handle still goes in. I tried grinding a slot in a spark plug socket, but it was too short to go over the sensor. The wires click back into the plug easy as you like - just make a note of where they go because the wire colours on the car side of the plug dont match. If your cat is loose your half way there, mine were solid, it took 3 hours of chiselling and levering.

I borrowed a proper tool from a super local specialist (so there is one available BTW). PeterH pops the pins out of the connector (just latched in - press latches back carefully with a small screwdriver & push out) to get his off IIRC.

Thanks for all the info guys. I made myself a custom Lambda sensor remover and then spent about an hour and a half fiddling with a drill and screwdriver to prise the precats out.

A Job well done.

I fail to understand why the mechanic was incapable of doing it.
