hi vxr monsters,

my missus has just bullied me into chopping in my 2006 Volvo V70R estate for a diesel XC90(taking my 5 year-old daughter to ballet with all her screaming friends etc) so i have passed that over to her and I am now driving around in her little SportKa 1.6(NOT the convertible - before you all laugh).

The initial fun-factor from the rorty engine and go-cart handling has now worn off and the lack of space and comfort is seriously pi**ing me off - not to mention all the 'hairdresser' remarks at the rugby club.

The SportKa is worth about 4500 as a trade in, so as I still have about 4 grand left after buying the XC90 i thought I would swap the Ka with a large saloon with a big V6/V8. All the old AMG mercs at that money have done big miles, Mondeo ST220's are all over 10 grand.

I have found a silver 54-plate Vectra GSi with Sat Nav and only 27000 miles for 7700 at a dealer, including 12 months RAC warranty - is this a good deal?

I would quite like a Monaro or a Vectra VXR, but am waiting 'til prices drop below 10k and I thought the GSi might be a good stop-gap. Would appreciate any comments/experiences you may have before I commit to buying

Thanks, Vic

Not driven this car but people I know who have say it sticks to the road very well and is a great car. Might be worth a serious test drive if nothing else.

I have found them to be very good and suprisingly quick! The gears are very long and it pulls through them effortlessly. I feel that the chassis and brakes are about on the limit with the engine performance, but they are still good fun and great mile munchers, just dont expect to many mpg's with the foot down and buy a snooper/road angel biggrin

A nice Q Ship, but I just couldn't accept that cheap nasty grey plastic interior. Loads of space inside though, very nice on the motorway.

I've not driven the new model, but did have the last model 2.5v6 GSI. Looked the business and nice sounding engine, but ultimately guzzled fuel and wasn't really that fast. Too big and heavy I think.

Subjective and depends what your expectation is, nice for every day use, practical, spacious, but not a real performer.

To get maximum grunt youll need the 3.2. The smaller V6 is alright but nowhere near as soo as the 'ol 3.2.
