Just got back from a great Goldtrack track day at Silverstone (full GP circuit - yay)

What a great day! driving

Big thanks to Calum, Melindi and the team. It was a bit crowded, but (mostly) everyone was well behaved. And those that weren't got a good telling off from Melindi.
wink

Thanks to PetrolTed for sharing his pit garage with me (top man!) and also for the passenger ride in his rather nice 996 GT3 RS. Yum.

Hello to the PHer in the GT40 (I'm sorry, but I forgot your username) - it was nice chatting to you. wavey

If anyone else was there too then shout out and say "hi". I was in the Corrado VR6 by the way.

Hi John wavey - 'twas me biggrin

Agreed - another great day from Goldtrack - you really can't fault Melindi and the team....

I had plenty of track time - dry as well as damp, which I always think is much more fun driving Seven half hour sessions and now I'm, well, ready for a rest!

Back to work tomorrow... frown

All the best.

Charles

Fun day. Yes, lots of corporate people in Group1 which felt a little like the M1 at times but gave me a chance to try it with the big boys in G2.

Was intersting to do a track with hardly any brakes left... and not much grip from the R888 either once the rain started. Add it to the learning curve smile

Which car were you in?

I was in Grp1 and I have to concur. I suspected there were lots of Corporate and 'Experience' people in that group because my little Corrado just shouldn't have been able to overhaul and pass a lot of the machinery it was. And I got very little clear track time because, as you say, it was very crowded most of the time.

I was on R888s too and I had a spin going too hot into Vale in the damp. Ooops. redface

I was meant to be there, but was seriously let down by my mechanic, who, for his pleasure has charged me for his sheer incompetence.

Rant over.

Glad you guys had a good time, I shall be there on the 31st Oct now...

I was the Ferrari 575. I do not think I faster then usual, perhaps a bit slower as I was really not using the power in order to reduce speed-before-braking zone. I was also braking early and light to ensure the brakes last the day.

I would not buy another set of R888. In fact, if anyone can recommend a goood source to buy Michelin Pilot Spot Cup, I will appreciate that

For me the R888 is awesome in the dry and pretty controllable in the damp. It's just that Silverstone gets a bit greasy in the wet and I simply went into Vale too hot. All part of the learning experience.

I was going to start going on about the V70as again but as no one tends to listen to me I wrote this up, you could find it interesting:

I was on R888s too. Had no problem at all. When it started raining I had an instructor who showed me the dry lines and it was amazing how much grip was available. Certainly overcame my fear of driving in the wet.

I couldn't get the hang of those line you showed me, but fortunately had enough grip to get something out of my damp laps anyway (although stopped taking liberties on Vale, I can tell you. hehe)

I was in Group 2, seriously outclassed in a 993TT! Still great fun though. This was my second stint at this circuit and I'm still searching for "illumination". I had Sean Edwards with me (who wasn't outclassed at all), which made driving the wet sessions a real learning experience ... of the good sort. He showed me his chosen wet lines, which were completely different from the ones we'd used in the morning, different braking points, power application points and the all important part of trying to be smoooooooooth. Managed to keep it between the white lines the whole day, a remarkable accomplishment for me!

Yeah you did very well, was a good day.

Karting Wet lines (what we call them) around Silverstone work very well, one of the only tracks in the UK that they really work at. It is funny to see most people slipping and sliding around on the dry line, when you could overtake all of them around the outside with the grip you get!

Hi Fezza0

What was the difficulty with the R888 ( if you dont mind me asking ),I also know of a good source for Cups depending on the sizes your using...

You may well do so but you won't be fitting them on any of our days.

Forgive my ignorance, but are certain tyres banned on Goldtrack days then?

It was probably aimed at simply tyres rather than the r888.
