Just got an email saying the Le Mans picture I submitted for the forthcoming Dunlop Photobook has been selected for inclusion! cloud9

That's amazing smile And I'm not the only entry off here - the first picture on their gallery page has "PistonHeads" right across it smile

So who else sent them a piccy?

I think I've seen that FB5K VX220 near Wimbledon when I picked up my 911. Great pic btw.

Thanks smile

Although my o/h has just properly pi$$ed on my bonfire - "...so there are 120 winners, they'll sell them to the winners and their family and that's it...it's not a PROPER book is it..." frown

They give you nothing and in return you give them the copyright of your picture so technically speaking, it's not actually your picture anymore.

They don't specify how much they are giving to charity and with a limited book run it's not likely to be vast amounts and then....they have the copyright of your pic to use as they wish!

Great pic, though the competition does smack of a classic rights grabbing exercise. Don't suppose you have a copy of he T&C's around?

yes Thats what I thought, its all very well putting a nice book together "its for chaaaridee mate" but even so, a payment to the pic owner should be forthcoming. Too many companies out there ready to convert people's free material into their own personal $$$

The T's & C's are gone now but when it was discussed on another forum this extract was posted...

>>>Look at clauses 8 and 9

  1. All entries become the property of the promoter.
  2. All individuals submitting images to the competition give their consent to the image being published at a later date.<<<
Not a bad set up, Dunlop collect a vast number of images for nothing and they get the kudos of making a donation to the MSF (at no cost to them). Plus they have a ready market for the books from all the folks who have their pics published who'll have to buy a copy if they want to see it.

There you go. Its a phkn disgrace basically & the reason why I would never enter one of these comps - the primary beneficiary is Dunlop, the charity is just a ruse.

Well, you've all pi$$ed on my bonfire now frown

Although actually you're right, and I agree. But in this case I don't mind as I'm a rank amateur with very few pics of anything like publishable quality - so getting one in any form of print is reward enough.

Would I be right in thinking even getting published in a fairly high circulation magazine is worth less than £100 to the photographer?

It'll be interesting to see what quality the book is. From the email I got they selected 120 from "over 500" so they didn't have a massive pool to choose from.

It's an excellent picture, regardless.

But yes, I've seen a few 'corporate competitions' with dodgy T&Cs and avoided them because of that (not that 99.9% of my pics are even close to good enough anyway...).

Why would they need to pay a pro when so many punters will give their shots away for free?

That my friend is the problem...

Microstock is by all accounts making life more difficult for pro freelancers anyway, without this...

That is just what I was thinking, they could have given all the people that got there picture selected a copy of the book, at least.
