multifunctional steering wheel

Hi
I have a BMW 523i 1999 e39.
The multi functional steering wheel has stopped working, everything on there is dead even the horn.
Radio can still be worked by the main unit on the dash but cruise control, audio and horn are u/s.
Also the air bag light is on all the time on the dash?
Any ideas?
I checked the fuses and they are all ok?
Any help would be fantastic as i can't afford main dealer prices at the moment!!!

My guess is either the ring that allows the wheel controls to be wired up to the car or the connectors on it are broken. Either way, it would need the wheel to come off to replace.

Try checking where the fault is with a multimeter, you should get sufficient access if you take the steering column plastics off.

It will be the ignition switch for sure. Had the identical problem.
About £65 for the part plus fitting.
