Hi,

I'm looking for the largest, most powerful (cranking amps and total storage - Amp hrs) battery that will fit into the battery bay without modification.

Any suggestions?

You got a starting problem?

we have had to buy a jumper pack (snap-on one wink ) just so we can start it everyday!

Optima seems to be the best choice really. Spendy and needs some minor "adjustments" to the battery clamp, but well worth it i'm told.

Hi,

Whilst I wasn't having a starting problem there was definitely some labouring on start and it was only a matter of time so I had the battery tested - knackered! I'd rather replace it now than get up one frosty morning just as I'm running a bit late anyway!

I eventually tracked down an excellent battery wholesaler in Cheltenham (Groves Batteries in Tivolli) and bought a Varta battery (98Ah and 840 A cranking). It required a minor mod to the battery box (cutting away a small plastic lip at the front of the battery bay floor) and I had to take an angle grinder to the battery bracket but all is well. Many people also recommended Optima and whilst they certainly have a high cranking ampage for the physical size they have a relatively low Ah rating. The battery I bough has a 3 year guarantee so that's good enough for me and half the cost of an Optima.

As any of you who have looked for an alternate battery the one for the P38 has the pillars reversed from what seems to be standard.
