Yes, agreed. It would be most interesting.

I currently use Barons in Hindhead, but pay through the nose for it :-(

I second belleair's mentioning of AJ Robertson in Hove. Ex main dealer technician. The local main dealer gets him to do some of their work for them (I saw the invoices on his desk). His prices are good and he does what he says he'll do.

Thanks for the heads up on Barkers, only a few miles up the road from me so well handy. I'll try them out when I need a stamp in the book.

I have used Barons Hindhead in the past for Warranty work when I had my Z3M. They did a VANOS replacement on me pointing out the rumble at idle rather than waiting for any fault code to pop up. They did however leave a pipe off when sorting it so I wouldn't touch them again.
If I had actually had to pay for the work I would have been fuming!

After seeing the link on here I decided to try Barker's Motor Garage when my M3 developed another problem last week. Luckilt it turned out to be only warn brake pads, but because the inside ones had warn faster the sensor had not been triggered.

Anyway I called Barker's and spoke to the owner who said that where brakes are concerned it's best not to leave anything to chance and that he would take a look that afternoon, it was already 15:15, but he was good to his word and I left before 17:00 with a new set of pads all round. The bill? Well let's just say that if I doubled it there would still be plenty of change when compared to the main dealer, and that includes the use of OEM parts.

Would I use them again? Without a doubt! Richard's knowledge on BMW's is beyond reproach and the certificates are on the wall to prove it, the service is superb, he went out of his way to fit my car in even though it meant working late to finish another car that wss being picked up the following morning.

The only downside is that it makes the ridiculously expensive warranty (that doesn't seem to cover much anyway) superfluous.

MJF I understand although small are engine and gearbox experts, also into E30 race car preparations. Well worth a second look if in the area.
