5 stud wheel conversion
Discussion
I've been wanting to up-grade my wheels for ages, but I'm particular about keeping the TVR look, so far no after market rims come close to looking the part. I do like the Estoril wheels I have but want to move to larger rims, either 16 all round or 17 all round, maybe 17 rear 16 front...
So may threads so many opinions and I value them all, just need to make a decision. My favorite option is to do a 5 stud conversion and put TVR spiders on, I'm willing to do the conversion myself but want to know what kind of job it is, do I need new brakes and calipers all around (which is not a bad thing given the trouble I've had with the stock sized brakes).
Any and all advice gratefully received.

No 17" in spiders, just all 16" or 18"... Silverstone Performance wheels look good to me (& are lighter than my spiders :bugger
. Factory spider wheel u/g was really good value cos you got new AP brakes bearings tyres etc - it would prob cost more than TVR charged to get a new AP kit fitted! but that was then is this is now...
Doing the 5 stud conversion is quite lengthy, instead of just getting bigger wheels & brakes. You can plate behind & redrill with longer studs, or source the Ford flanges (as TVR did) I think AntJ traced them a while ago.

Thanks Dave, I've replaced all the disks and pads 7 months ago and aside from a disaster with Mintex Xtreme pads (never again) and having to switch to Red Stuff C after 500 miles I'm pretty happy, they are pretty good, but not "great" so bigger disks (front) are on the cards anyway. I said I'd do the 5 stud converion myself but also like to know who to contact if it's too big a job for me.
I've seen wheels that look pretty good (on TVR car parts?) I'm not sure if they were the silverstone wheels but 1k for wheels alone and I think there must be a better way. If not then I'll just start saving! ;-) I do love the look of spiders on a Chim, I think TVR Bob has them on his, the picture I saw looked great.
I'd even settle for getting a pair of 16" Estroils for the front but they seem like rocking horse s**t, any idea where I can get some?

The spider conversion does look good, http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/231136.htm
I contacted the guy who is selling this car and he told me it cost around £1500 but I can't recall who he got to do it.
There is a set of estorils on pistonheads classifieds.

You could sell the 15"s on and keep the 16"s although there seem to be quite a few 15" sets for sale at the moment.

It was £1400 all in collected from the factory, exchanging your old hubs(in serviceable condition - the main failure of the programme!) How much you paid for fitting & who did it was up to the individual (I did fitted my own, with much appreciated advise from Neil & Joo). Alas even the factory seemed to lose interest, I think TVRBob (aka something else now) had one of the last ones.

Did you just put Mintex with the standard front disc's or did you try upgrading the disc's
Go for fully drilled an grooved disc's, have been running my Chimaera for 3 years now using Mintex pads on drilled and grooved disc's all round, no problem with lots of track days and road use.
Surprised you have problems with Mintex.

I did everything right (I think) new disks, drilled and grooved and I did a long and carefull bed-in, to be honest they were rubbish from the beginning. EBC were fine from the beginning. When I removed the Mintex the surface was badly torn up right across the spot where the holes pass and generally crumbling, I contataced Mintex and they were not helpfull, the guy just said if I'd taken it on a track there was no guarantee (but, but sir, they say road & RACE on the box...).
