I need TVR knowledge....to help me diagnose this buggery lumpy running problem.

Firstly it as this --> http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Then this --> http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Now I have done the following:

New Coil
New Plugs and leads.
New Distributer.
New Rotor arm.
Oil change.
New Oil filter.
New stepper motor.

Resprayed the rear quarter....[OK so I knew that wouldn't help paperbag]

But the car is STILL a lumpy fecker... frown

Runs smoothly when going. Purrs like a beast with some gas....goes like feck. Feels good.

But still lurches and is lumpy when I slow for a roundabout etc and pootle along in second frown

Help...

Some things to consider from the Bible; it is most likely one of the below in your case!!
as you have isolated the power lines.

If its an HC then some of them do that on idle. Mine does.

Fuel vaporisation, lag the fuel rail around the base of the plenum to stop the pipe getting hot.
You can re-chip the car with a more efficient unit that will smooth the running out. (not yet)

Does your speedo read properly all the time? there is an input from a speed sensor that links to the ECU.
Throttle butterfly sticking. if gummed up can not shut right up, allowing air leak.

faulty lambda sensor problem.

You can do a check on most of the sensors by unplugging the ECU, plug it back in again, and if it runs ok for a short period may confirm a problem. This will only make it run normal on idle until the ECU can't control the engine idle after trying, due to a sensor fault.

Have you checked all the vacuum hoses?? (you probably have)

Check the engine running in pitch black.......you will see any electrical tracking.

There's something to be getting on with eh!!

If all else fails, its a dealer that will probably find it for you (yes I know you don't want to give in but sometimes this is all thats left.

Depending on how bad it is... I hate to say it but a lot of them do that do some extent, HCs and standard. You learn to drive around it and keep the revs a little higher.

If you try everything and can't find anything wrong with it, then you can get the fueling remapped (new chip and a bit of an expert's time with a rolling road to play with) and that will probably make it better.

Like Noogly said, to some extent that's the way they are. I remember my indy laughing about the lumpy chug chug at low speed but I learned to overcome it with clutch/throttle control.

Gorvid,

Did you get hold of one of those in line HT testers?

Hi gorvid , I had the same problem with mine 4.00 , also she ran a bit(lot) rich , and if you trawl the forum you will find just about everyone else has had this problem in one way or another. Re-chipping just cannot be the way ahead, horses and bolts on doors and all that. I changed the ecu temp sensor which looks like it was telling the brain the engine was constantly cold (hence the over fuelling) also disconnect the ecu and reconnect to reset the logic 'TVR OXYMORON' Whatever you do , try the stuff that doesn't cost you anything first, or at least as little as possible anyway. Best of luck.
