£4000 to spend on TVR......
Discussion
Hey guys,
I have finally decided to rid my ISA of its contents and splash out on a car that I have always loved. The M series TVR.
What kind of car do you think I can get for this kinda money?
I want the have the 3000m one, but may consider the 2500m. Any thoughts when comparing the two? I'd also like the earlier one (pre 76 I think?) with the Zodiac vents and cortina lights.
I might be able to stretch to 4.5k for the right car, do you think I'd be better going for an early eighties car and compromise (in my opinion) on looks for a more reliable package?
Thanks in advance

For that money you should be able to get a very respectable M series. There are very few 2500Ms in the UK, so I should set your sights on a 3000M. Only the very early cars had the Cortina Mk2 lamps (1972 and early 73), but the Zodiac vents continued with the TR6 lamps until around 1976. At this point the Taimar was launched with the opening hatch, if you wish to use the car regularly this would be an advantage.
The market is slow at the moment and several cars have been up for sale for some time, but if you study the models, decide what you want/can afford, and look for a car with a quality rebuild, you should find something that will give you a lot of fun.

If by S series you mean the later cars from the 80s that followed the M series rather than the M convertible, then perhaps it's a matter of whether you want a soft top or not. The S series uses significantly more modern running gear than an M but is lumbered with trailing arm rear suspension.
