DOSBOX + EOB

I downloaded the EOB games, but I am left with a load of files inside the ZIP files....how do I make it work?

Somewhere, either where you downloaded the zip file from, or, horror of horrors, inside the zip file itself, will be a series of words, within which you will find the wisdom of the Ancients themselves, as far as they could divine. Thus will the software be installed, and yea verily, they calleth this a manual.

Lets begin.

First of all install DOSBox.

Now, make a directory say.... C:\DOSGAMES

Extract that zip file in to EOB1 (2,3 which ever one it is) and take a look. Does it have any kind of 'setup.exe' or 'install.exe' in there? DON'T DOUBLE CLICK IT! Modern Window's really won't take kindly to an ancient DOS game trying to crank up

Now, flick through the DOSBox manual. Read through the bit about 'mounting' Important.

Mount C:\DOSGAMES as the C:\ in DOSBox.
Now dump the EOB1 folder to C:\ and mount that as say... D:\
In DOSBox, go to D:\ and type 'setup' or 'install'.
Tell it to install to C:\EOB1 (2,3).
No C:\, cd EOB1, run EOB.

If you don't see an installer, then dump the EOB1 directory straight in to C:\DOSGAMES, do the mounting, CD right in there and run that sucker.

DOS is a command based OS - one that never really had any form of GUI ala Windows.

My malware iskept in check. I am well up on viruses, as after the blaster worm, I never wanted anything to so utterly rape my computer's soul so mercilessly again. I have quite a few little gadgets to help me keep nasties out, but if someone REALLY wants ot get in, they can. If theycan hack government systems, they can hack mine.

Riiiight. So these great little apps that have been released to the public that do it all for you and give you a newt little prize/game at the end are super duper, and you're more than happy installing them?

You have quite a few little gadgets, you know, that installed without any real user intervention or need for configuration, you absolutely sure about what they all do? You undertstand how they work, what they achieve?

Nick, I really think you need to wake up and smell the coffee. We've tried to help you on your threads by giving you the basic commands and infor required to get this little game going for you, and you are being an absolute newbie.

You mention you [i]know[i] how to work floppies? Well how the frag did they run on your computer; by witchcraft? You still have to mount the bloody things and then dir/cd into the damn things.

I love this thread. If memory serves correctly, the last time I tried to get a miggy emulator running, it took about 15 seconds. I shall have to try this dosbox thing in spare moment.

Heh - I recall trying to network boot a bunch of 386's such that they had a network driver and enough memory left to play doom....
