New Radiohead album out in a matter of days...
Discussion
I'm not so keen on this idea
I love Radiohead, but I don't want to buy a lossy MP3 version of their album!! Sure, I can listen on my iPod, but what ever happened to listening to quality music on a hi-fi at home? Surely true Radiohead fans will want to do this? I've got to wait till December to buy a CD, and then it comes in a probably over-priced box set with two 12"s that will be of no use to me at all?!
It also seems to be a marketing ploy to make more money by including tracks on the box set that aren't on the download, which goes against everything that Radiohead have ever stood for! Not happy!!

I think leaving it down to the customer as to how much they pay for the download is a nice idea - would be interesting to see if anyone does pay for it in the end.
There will be a standard one CD release at some point Rob, just this all adds to the hype I guess and Radiohead always do a nice limited edition for fans who like such things
I guess because they are not tied to a record company these days they can experiment a bit with new methods of selling stuff. It's nice to see a bit of a new approach to modern methods of music distribution in my eyes...

I can sort of see your point, yes. It is nice to see experimentation, but I'm still not up for this one! I wonder how long I'll have to wait before I can buy a CD to add to my collection of Radiohead albums?..

Can I butt in and make this a threesome?

Yes, I'd forgotten about the leaks - they make a good point there. I'll get the CD on back order for early 2008 I think!Well, I think it's a novel way to do things if you haven't a record contract, don't really want one and perhaps just want a distribution deal a la Pink Floyd.
I think it's fair for customers to pay what they want, although how that pans out financially will be interesting to see. It short circuits what's happening in music anyway. I like the boxset idea (I'm a vinyl addict but like music in the car too!), plus you get a few promo style items (book/artwork, bonus CD etc) so a good deal all in all. The regular CD will be out come the year end I think.
They've had a few probs with the servers - it was difficult to get my order in yesterday but they are aware and working on it - the big server crash test dummy will be the 10th - when gawd knows how many people will be trying to suck the songs from the great web...
Either way - hope everyone enjoys the album (whether digital, analogue or a more ethereal format that exists only within an electic box!)

Agreed, enjoying the music for it's own sake is what counts, it's just that after hearing it through an ipod I can't wait to hear whatever I've been listening to on the stereo at home A
