Id appreciate some informed ideas regarding the amount of hours required by a professional to do the following things please! I'm just interested in working out how many hours labour this should take at most:

1) fit new clutch and slave cylinder
2) replace all 4 shocks with gaz golds and set up geometry
3) how many extra hours to fit new cams and followers, if already having a 12000 mile service at same time (which requires removing cams I think?)

am I right in thinking the 12000 mile service includes setting up valve timing and tappets?

any advice appreciated, thanks

I can help with the shocks and geo, I was quoted 1 hour per corner to do remove/replace and do the geo. In the end the remove/replace bit myself (but it did take me all day........).

I've had two clutches, at two different main dealers. One was 6 hours, the other was 10 hours.

Two sets of shocks at different places, both took 4 hours.

My 12k services are normally £600, add £400 if the tappets need doing.

No more than 6 hours. I've done one start to finish never having done one before and it took me 5, dependant obn if you have a ramp or not though.

Shocks, if they're a bugger to get on and off no more than an hour per corner providing you have to jack each corner up on it's own etc etc. Geo, anything from 30 mins to put the kit on and check to an hour and a half to change camber and tracking I'd say.

3) how many extra hours to fit new cams and followers, if already having a 12000 mile service at same time (which requires removing cams I think?)

No idea on this. Maybe add £200 to the price of a service that includes a tappet check. Time will be spent dialiing the new cams in.

Try fitting the shocks yourself, it doesn't require special tools and should take about an hour per corner. Good idea to buy a new set of bolts from Steve Heath for example.

A base set up for Gaz golds could be 16 clicks at the back, 12 at the front and a ride height to the outriggers of 150mm front, 160mm rear.

Blimey, that's a good price.

The tappets are normally done/checked at the 12k service.

Is there any chance that was for a 6k + tappet adjustment ?

That said, it would still be cheap.

Did they adjust the tappets or just check them ?

Just checked Austec's site.

12k & tappets is £895.

Still cheaper than I pay from Power though.

APM menu pricing is £675 inc VAT for a 12k and that includes Tappets.

Now just to wait for the day when I can put the car in for a service to get the call saying "All ready no extras needed just the standard service this time"..... that's the day I will also go buy myself a lottery tckt hehe

Sinclair cant you just ask them to do the service, and then advise on any further work. That way you can get them to do what you want to do and may be do some of the work yourself.Saves on a horrifying bill at the end of it.

Oh deffo, Andy will do as little or as much as you want and nothing would be taken on without a consult call first; however when it comes to the Cerb I don't want to take on anything remotely tricky myself as would it up no doubt, I don't mind tackling batteries, big fuses and that sort of thing but anything else pretty much I leave to the guvnor... if he says it needs doing it gets done.

Now the Landy, that however is going to get as little labour money spent on it as possible, that car is my "teach yourself basic mechanics" course. Anything I think I might have a chance at doing on that, I will have a crack at.
