Has anyone here put down a deposit on a new M3 4-door or touring? I'm going to be looking for a new fast-but-practical daily driver for delivery next summer, so would be very interested in people's experiences in getting info out of their dealer. I'm especially interested in how things work putting down a deposit on a car which hasn't been officially launched yet!

My experience ordering a new M3 coupe was simple. Go to the dealer, tell them what you are interested in and leave a deposit. They will then call you when they need to know the specification and require further deposit at that point, probably up to 10%. The initial deposit should be refundable up to the point when you choose the spec. The initial deposit I paid was £1,000 but I think some require £2,000 and some people on this forum have placed orders without deposits, but they must know their dealer better than I do.

Erm, thanks, but I was more interested in whether dealers had allowed people to put deposits on a car which hasn't been officially announced, but which exists in spy shots.

I shall just have to pop along to my dealer to find out smile

Shouldn't be a problem - Porsche take speculative deposits all the time. Usually with them all that's required is a letter of intent.

Its up to you really....

I have deposits on cars that may never ever come out but also on some that will and these people are way ahead, ie X6, CSL and CS.

If you can spare £500 quid you'll be top of my list as far as the touring or saloon are concerned! biggrin

Sorry, I should have explained that I put the deposit down over two years ago when the car hadn't been announced officially, so I think I've answered your question.

I've just got my money back but could have had the car this month if I'd still wanted it.

Thanks for all the advice folks - very useful. Now I just have to keep my finges crossed that they actually build the M3 touring and spare me the ignominy of driving a saloon wink
