Top-up engine oil for Gallardo? (revisited)
Discussion
Apologies for restarting this discussion. I've searched the past posts on this apparently fairly contentious subject, but I haven't found a definitive answer.
The handbook (MY08, p269) says use Agip Sint 2000 5w-40 for 'standard use'. I have just spoken to a gentleman at the importer, Moto World (UK), who told me that Sint 2000 does not come in 5w-40 grade.
http://www.motoworlduk.co.uk/aboutus.html
He also checked the documentation from Agip Benelux which he concluded says what oil is suitable for every model of Lambo dating back to the Fred Flintstone era, except for the Gallardo which is not mentioned at all. He, quite reasonably, said that, although Moto World supples a lot of oil for Lambos, he did not want to recommend a product that might be at odds with the manufacturer's specification.
The Agip web site
http://www.agip.de/webcontent.omeco/folder_4432.ht...
mentions Tecsint SL 5w-40, which is described simply as 'full-synthetic' on the Moto World web site.
The Agip web site also mentions 7004 5w-40. The Moto World site describes 7000 oil as 'a series of very high quality, fully synthetic specialist engine lubricants' and 'available on request', which sounds reassuringly exotic and unobtainable.
So, may I ask what oil are people actually using to top up their engines?

Lambo Manchester use Shell fully synthetic because of the supply issue with Agip in the UK. Thats what is in the LP640.
On the advise of the factory I'm going to use Agip bike oil 20w-50 in the other Murcie since the oil pressure when hot is pretty low and it's supposed to work wonders for that. Trouble is it's £287 for 20 litres

Just gone through the same search as you - new MY08 G, 700 miles under its belt and top up needed. Trawled a few forums and no definitive answer - most dealers using Esso/Castrol or Mobil fully synthetic 5w40. Other G owners swear Agip must be used. I ended up buying some Agip Tecsint SL 5w40 from Motoworld
Before we go through this all again, please, those of you with modern Lamborghinis, only use Agip.
There is a very good reason, it has the potential to really hit you where it hurts if you don't, and there is no supply issue, just an issue with certain large motor groups being under contract to only use a single supplier for all of their motor oil requirements, and unfortunately, that doesn't involve Agip.
It recommends Agip, so if it was my G car, or Murky, especially a LP 640, I would make damn sure that it was Agip that went into it.
After the car is our of warranty, then use what you like, but whilst it is still in warranty, then I would comply with Lamborghini.
And I am not only saying this because I have one of the few supply contracts for Agip, PM me and I will explain all, and give you their number direct so you can get the oil direct if you so wish, I just cannot recommend strongly enough that you should be using Agip in your modern Lambos.

Ruttboy.

Alan,
Thanks for chiming in on the reprise of this topic. I would PM you if only I could work out how to.
I intend to use Agip oil. The isue I am trying to resolve is *which* Agip oil?
- The handbook says use Sint 2000 5w-40 for 'standard use', but there is apparently no such product.
- Agip Tecsint SL 5w-40 'full-synthetic' is obtainable and sounds plausible, except that:
- Agip 7004 5w-40 is described as 'very high quality, fully synthetic specialist engine lubricant', sounds suitably exotic, but sounds as if it might be hard to get.

I do take Alan's POV on the AGIP Tecsint, but further research shows that other high-quality grade oils (such as MOTUL 300v or Silkolene Pro S) should be at par, at least. Of those 2, I have heard rumors that Silkolene is not produced in Fuchs facilities but sourced from other producers (albeit following a very stringent QC).
Anyway, Alan's point on the Tecsint is valid, and under warranty I would not risk changing the AGIP for anyhting else. Some ppl have learnt that the hard way.

The Motul 300v and Silkolene are on paper much better oils than the AGIP Tecsint. These are race-grade oils which have been heavily researched and tested, on the track and off. Then, there are claims that the AGIP oil boasts special detergents which have been tailored to comply with specific demands from the Lambo engines, but then, the Tecsint is a mass-production oil which is used across the board by different marques so it is difficult to believe such a specific fine-tuning (and to a Lambo..!)
There are tales, as I said above, of people feeding something else and then running into problems, particularly with the oil pumps. Whether that's a question of non-AGIP usage is a possibility (then, it may relate to some other particular oil being used by a dealer, as Alan says correctly there are 'deals' with specific companies) but doubt the MOTUL and/or Silkolene will not be up to it, and by a mileage.
To avoid warranty issues I would stick to AGIP whilst under factory warranty but then use whatever is best afterwards; clearly, the AGIP is technically not the best oil, albeit better than anything you can source at the pump.
