Interesting times ahead - Alonso v Hamilton
Discussion
So Hamilton becomes world champion and Alonso stays with the team. An interesting situation would develop at McLaren in terms of who would be the number one driver...
Would it be Hamilton as he is the world champ with number 1 on his car or would it be Alonso as he is a two times champ?

wasn't all the spygate problems caused because Mclaren wouldn't choose a No.1 driver Would it be Hamilton as he is the world champ with number 1 on his car or would it be Alonso as he is a two times champ?

There's no way Alonso will stay if LH wins the drivers championship. He'd rather retire than be in that position!
Dream scenario: Lewis wins championship, Alonso walks, Button released from Honda contract and joins McLaren.
you missed the bit about Alkuntso having to pay McLaren a shed load of cash to get out of his contract.... I belive Ron would be happy with $100MDream scenario: Lewis wins championship, Alonso walks, Button released from Honda contract and joins McLaren.

Neither of those. In one of the next 2 races Alonso and Lewis will take each other out, get out the car and start having a punch up in the middle of the circuit. This leads to them receiving a lifetime ban from F1. With nothing to do they both take up figure skating and become the worlds first mens doubles team Would it be Hamilton as he is the world champ with number 1 on his car or would it be Alonso as he is a two times champ?

.If Alonso wanted to spend next year watching F1 only on his television, he wouldn't have to pay McLaren to release him. He would just have to "lose his motivation" to push to the limit, so that his lap times were a second off Lewis's.
He could manage to do that during '07/8 winter testing, inducing the team to look for a substitute.
Towards the end of '08, he could "feel the hunger" again, and Ferrari take the "gamble" to put him in a car in '09.

Alonso has made comments that he needs to race in '08 to keep up to date with cars sans driver aids such as traction control. Despite his public disagreements with Mclaren, he happens to be driving one of the four cars able to compete for a win every couple of weeks or so. I don't see him cutting his nose off to spite his face. If his performances this season have been whislt at loggerheads with part of the team, it doesn't appear to have hindered him at all!
Of course, the press wouldn't have much of a story if they reported "Alonso in just wants to be a racing driver in competitive car shocker!".

McLaren don't have a number one driver. Next year both drivers would still be equal.
So you don't think Alonso at the beginning of the season was considered the no1 driver? I think he was!!!I think FA wants to leave Maclaren - but he wants RD to terminate his cntract so he gets a payout.
RD on the other hand wants FA to terminate his contract + pay Maclaren to be able to leave.
Who's gonna budge?
FA will take the pain and sit it out for another 2 years - he has a contract + get paid a shedload.
Not sure what RD's piggy bank looks like -it may have been raided already to pay for next years season.
Result - Maclaren have a fast but grumpy sulking FA till end 2009.
