What tyre question - Tamora
Discussion
Just realised that the Tamora rear tyres need replacing very soon. This gives leaves me pondering these choices.
Currently I'm running the T1R Toyo's all the way round with the standard sizes below and on the 18" spiders.
Your thoughts would be apreciated
- Replace them with T1R toyo's again
- Replace them with T1R toy's but go from 235 to bigger, if so whats best size to go to?
- Replace with another brand

Mine came with eagle f1's all round, i changed the rears to Dunlop sp9000's as i got them for £65 each i couldn't refuse. didn't notice any difference what so ever in terms of grip. Just bought a new set of eagle f1's for the front. I tried both f1's and toyos on my renault r5 turbo and didn't notice any difference. The r5 had 285bhp through the front wheels, however when i tried r888's on the front i noticed a huge difference, no more spinning the wheels in 3rd they were like glue, you pull over and loads of small stones would be bedded in the tyre they get that soft.- Replace them with T1R toyo's again

What i'm saying is you will struggle to find a difference between the top brands in tyres, unless you were pushing them to the limits.
Hence go for the best price to be honest.
Thanks for comments so far, I run the Tamora as much as possible, dry, rain even when it snowed last year.
Looks like Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3 are getting good feedback, so will probably give them a go.
Anyone know if this will make the handling suffer and would I be better replacing the fronts too?
Lastly just have to decide on the size, would you recomend moving up to 240's ? Would they rub, and would I look for 240 * 35 or 240 *40 ?

Not a Tamora any more, but I've gone for the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas for the Merc. They have been getting universal praise, especially resistance to aquaplaning. They've won (or nearly won) just about every tyre test I've read, and after ringing round several tyre dealers, the general consensus seems to be they are really good. Some guys on the Merc forums have been saying how quiet and long lasting they are, with superb grip as well. Good price and the tread pattern looks brilliant as well.
I had both GSD3 and Proxes T1 on my Tamora - not much to choose between them.
Also worth noting that the Eagle F1 that won EVO's test was the new F1 Asymmetrical, not GSD3.

I had the Toyos on my Tam when I bought it a year ago. It turned out that the set up wasn't right on the front, causing the inside of both front to go bear. I opted for the eagle F1's all around and have found them as good, but not any better in the dry but they are better in the wet. I also opted for the 245 width at the back and they don't scrub attal. Nearly went for the 255 as I've heard they don't scrub but got told that they would over hang the wheels a bit too much. I'm going to try the R888'S next to see what they are like but it won't be for a while yet.
I'd recomend the eagle F1's for an all round tyre but if you want two less than half worn Toyos for the rear until you decide, I've got two sat in the garage?

The Vredesteins certainly seem to be getting some good reviews and seem to be quite competitive in cost compared to Proxes T1R's - I just checked with eTyres and a couple of local distributors. I was planning to replace the T1S's on the rear of my Tuscan with T1R's but might opt for the Sessanta's all round. Will wait and decide in a couple of weeks,

I just find tests like these - well pretty much useless. They can never consider enough influences IMHO...car type, weight, use etc etc.

My 255/40s have just arrived - Treadwear rating 280! Also 99Y load rating which means they should be stiffer and take higher cornering speeds....
If you want trick looks they are definitely the tyre to go for! I hope the fitter puts them on right as the rolling direction isn't marked.

te in wet, I think the car is too light at the back for these tyres if you drive in all weathers. I'm trying Eagles next time around.
