It's typical government Bullsh*t, put the onus on companies, so they can say they're not forcing it on the people, glossing over the fact that companies will just pass the cost on to consumers, so they ARE forcing it on us.

Perhaps someone could start up a business where car parts are recycled.

When, for example, a car was no longer viable as a runner (due to damage/maintenance costs etc) the owner could sell it to what I will call a 'breaker'. These 'breakers' could then dismantle the car and sell the useful parts as cheap spares to other motorists, hence reducing the wastage from unviable cars. Some of these 'breakers' could even use what I will call 'adverts' and 'websites' to let motorists know what parts are available.

If this idea was sold to the Government as 1) a 'green' recycling initiative; and 2) a 'service' for poor people, there is every chance that there would be a massive grant available...

I thought the environmentally friendly way of disposing of scrap cars was to sell them to Max Power readers?

Hello Umar. There's a "Hello" thread lurking in General Gassing somewhere. It's worth a look even if you don't post to it, there's an interesting Corsa detailed there...

Sounds more like the motor makers have a good lobby. Didn't they want to scrap all cars over 10 years old recently?

There was a company i think it was Bolney Motor Works that started out specialising in breaking BMW`s, i belive BMW took some sort of stake in the company after a few years

That 'Breaker' Scheme sounds like a wonderful idea, if only there were some round the country that woul pay you for your scrap car (had to have one removed a while ago, cost me 25 quid! and the bloody engine still ran fine (bodyshell was totally rotten), andthat was the cheapest quote I got for removing it!)

Apparently new Regulations on how cars are 'Broken' mean that, coupled with the collapse of scrap metal prices, breakers are now charging to take away old cars, to make sure they don't loose money on the parts!
