Thermostat not working.

Any reason why the thermostat should decide not to work somtimes.
Was fine going to Silverstone and to hotel etc, and back.

But on sunday would not open, let the car cool down, and took it home, but then it was fine.
Then when at northweald afer it cooling down again, would not work again.

In the end Had to take it out. wasted the carlimits day. working on the car, at least it was not raining.

Sometimes you can get air buildup around the stat which stops it warming up.

Is it the type with the hole+tadpole? The hole should be uppermost to let the air past.

Yes it did have the giggle pin (tadpole.) and I did make sure it was at the top. so that should have let the air out. it was a new stat, and I fitted the pin from the old one, as it did not have it.
