Alonso kind of stinks but if anything this shows that LH respects FA's competitive threat for the championship. FA has created the greatest amount of stress on and off the track cf. any other driver for LH.

I don't quite get Briatore's comments. If the double world champion is so good, surely he shouldn't need number one status and the advantage of having the team behind him against a rookie? Or does Briatore thing Alonso expected a "I don't want to be made to look a fool" clause in his contract?

That's the thing though. There is no way that McLaren would have made any such promise as it is completely the opposite to thier stance on driver status. They have never had a number 1 driver, even back when Senna was with them.

The Spantard (Love that new name for him ) went to McLaren knowing full well he was equal status with the rookie... he just didn't beleive the "rookie" would be as quick as he is.

I just don't get it. If somehow FA were getting a worse car than LH then I think he might have a valid beef. But the fact that McL only have one spec. of car - i.e. "top spec" - FA is just basically saying that merely by his previous performance he should get an extra advantage over someone else.

It's like Man Utd saying that they deserve a 1-nil lead in all the games they play because they are a top team.

Surely it's better (for a driver) to win in identical cars than to win just because you have a better one?

1, Scumacher wasn't in the the same team so didn't conflict with Alonso's number one status at Renault.

2, Scumacher is a bigger than Alonso.

I think it is more about having the whole team supporting one driver to win the championship. If one drive is supporting the other in their race strategy then they will obviously have more chance of winning. Many teams have done it over the years and it is one of reasons Schey won so many championships. An F1 teams main goals are to win the drivers and constructors championships, simple as that.

I would just like to add that I personally do not agree with this practise but I do understand the motivation behind it.

His admitted use of Ferrari information. The FIA transcript (and yes, I have read it all) states clearly that Alonso sent emails to De La Rosa discussing the use of Ferrari information relating to set up.
