Hi all, my better half has just come back with the Griff with no indicators/hazards or dip/main beam only main beam on flash. Wipers/horn/windows ect are all working, no instrument lights though. Have checked the main and dip fuses, the handbook doesn’t mention on for the indicators, any ideas? Typically Ive got two cars off the road this week and was relying on the normally bullet proof Griff!

Just check all fuses, particularly side light & dash.

If fuses are OK - might need to check that the dash switches are still connected - mine came off the diped lights switch and the dash would light up but the front and rear light would not. Took ages to figure that out. Hopefully it is a fuse as the dash panel needs to be taken out to check the connectors on the switches.

Thought the instrument lights were earthed from under the centre console - either side of where the gearstick is - have to lift the centre console (roof needs to be off).

OK, quick update, pulled all the fuses, found two blown, the dash battery feed and the Cigarette lighter/horn. Interestind seing as the horn was working confused Lights are now working in all modes, the radio has also sprung to life, still no indicators though, I understand that the same flasher unit is used for the hazards (which are working) with just a relay to control the switching so I am wondering now if it could be a fault in the indicator switch itself. Just to add to missery, I took my rear wheel in to have a slow puncture fix only to find I have hairline crack on the inside of the rim! With 16" Estorils being so rare/expensive I think I will investigate getting it welded first.

Couple of reports in the last couple of years of the diode for the flashers having failed.

I have a wiring diagram (Chim but Griff is prob similar) at

Don't recall what the bible said, but I've only ever seen them taped to the main umbilical loom that connects up the aux panel. Give it a good 'hand job' and you will feel where the diode is taped up if you can't see it straight away (@9-12" of lead, hence from flasher unit IIRC).

Mine was hazards OK, indicators not. Was the diode but it was behind the fuseboard - press car so likely to be different but if its not by the auxiliary panel behind the dash try here next. 20p part, lots of time to find.

Out of interest, is yours the model with the flasher unit in the fusebox by any chance?

Mine too, one of the "tails" from the diod had broken, the diods were indeed trapped behind the aux fuse board, re-soldered the connection and hay presto, indicators working. However, my dip beam fuse has blow again so somthing still adrift there, oh well back in the footwell lol

OK, an update on my progress. Re-soldered the tail back on the indicator diode and all appeared OK, the dip beam fuse blew again, replaced it and re-connected the multi plugs to the dash (took the opportunity to do the Leven dash from scratch as the whoever fitted it made a right dogs breakfast, done a few of these now and have found that silicone is the best thing to attach the clips to the dash and doesn’t go brittle with the heat from the sun) and went through all the switches, all good so tried the indicators, front and back working, no side repeaters, noticed a whiff of smoke at the back of the dash pod and they failed again, on closer inspection the diode had got hot enough to melt the solder off both tails this time! The alarm fob boot release/central locking had also failed which was just a fuse, however, just joining the wires together without the diode everything was working fine and no heat, until I replaced the alarm fuse. So following the wiring from the alarm, back to the siren I found the culprit, a cable tie had given up and the wire to the siren had melted on the pre-cat. Just finished soldering the wiring back together and doing the diode again, the alarm and locking are now working so fingers crossed for the rest of it tomorrow. Feeling a bit thick for not looking under the bonnet in the first place

I thought the alarm wiring ran inside the wing? is this a case of aftermarket work?

Yes Laserline, nice to have a remote boot opener but poor cable routing, have made sure it cannot come adrift again.

I've got one too, its not too hard to run the cables down the inner wing (use the side repeater as a a halfway point), you can also mount the alarm 'round the corner' above where the air hose goes thru the body (oops..sorry forgot its your Griff)- to keep it out of the wet etc..
