Convert Sat Nav bought in USA to UK

I have just purchased a NEXTAR sat nav system from Florida which I was assured would work in the UK. Does anyone know how to download the data for UK roads and what card I need to buy? (No card received with it). Has anyone else got one of these? Hope I was not ripped off. I have e mailed the company and am awaiting a reply but it is taking a while.

AFAIK it will work in the UK, i.e. it will receive a signal - but it won't have any maps. I had a quick Google and found nothing on the subject.

I thought the UK was the 51st state - so surely it must be included in the USofA map?
