Engine management real time data...
Discussion
Some more technical info here http://www.efilive.com/overview_flash2.aspx
But basically efilive scantool hooks into the onboard OBDII port and reads data in realtime from the ECM. Its the same data that is sent to the display for RPM, Speed, temperature etc. But you gain access to hundreds of other things that arnt on the dash, like manifold pressure, throttle position, you also get the data accurate to a few decimal places. From memory its updated at least 10x a second.
The base tool can be upgraded to a full tune tool which allows you to tune your vehicle with the same tool that the pro's use. I know thunderracing, chipmaster in oz as well as Lingenfelter in the US use efilive. Quite a few guys here run it as well as corvette guys etc.
The device is "supposed" to be being software upgraded this month to allow all the data to be logged direct to the device and SDCard, so you dont even need a laptop in the car. You can also use it to scan for error codes and figure out why your car is showing "Check Engine" lights etc. It will also reset these codes and even disable them if thats what you want to do.
Think super powerful mega toy for your car. If you thought you knew how your car worked this little device will teach you everything you wanted to know and more about how it works, how airflow is measures, spark timing calculated etc.
if you have a 5.7L engine you can even throw a 285KW tune into it for free as HSV 380bhp tunes are freely downloadable. While the pro's will tell you that the HSV tune isnt the best thing to end up with, it can give you a good idea of what to change to increase power levels.

If you buy a scanner to review all the output, it won't belong before you wished you had bought a flashscan.
EfiLive or HP Tuner
I think EfiLive has the edge, Black Box logging and direct digital connection of LC-1 Wide Band O2 to the RS32 port due in imminant release of software.
Plus full simplified mafless tuning for the new VE PCM's which HPT doesnt have. Take a look on that here http://forum.efilive.com/showthread.php?t=5950EfiLive or HP Tuner

Probably more technical that most will understand, but then that also captures the benefit of efi over hpt. Its a technically superior product. It also the only serious tune solution which supports the moates roadrunner realtime PCM http://www.moates.net/product_info.php?cPath=53_56...
Plus plenty of knowledge here on pistonheads from owners etc.
But anyway, which ever tool you choose you will learn loads and spend way more time than you thought you would with it. Its like the best electronic toy you can buy bar none!

my lc-1 is playing up

probably needs a new sensor. The Bosch sensors dont last forever.

check your wiring? Is it getting a good 12v and ground to heat it up?
I think my 02 sensor has gone wonky too. But Im waiting for direct connection to the scan tool to be released to doublecheck it.
It does take longer when its cold but not like minutes or anything.
i have a feeling its wiring more than anything but it has never had a problem until yesterdayI think my 02 sensor has gone wonky too. But Im waiting for direct connection to the scan tool to be released to doublecheck it.

steve I think I'll go with the alternate to bosch in the future simply because I've heard of problems like this
well just been out, recalibrated it and it all seemed stable. Started car and it was ok using logworks then signal timing went whack.
hmm what had changed between it working and it not? I had restarted my autove but copied in the hsv table to start with, seems it was dumping in too much fuel. Reverted back to my last prior OLSD map and it seems ok. Stable input and a constant light.... fingers crossed.
Next thing to order is some fresh metripack connectors to fabricate the wiring as I want it
